In B10 play, TJD is tied for first in Torvik's D-PRPG metric. Sure, stats don't tell the whole story, but if you doubt the metric's validity, check the rest of the top five.
I’m not good with the abbreviations. I’m assuming thats defensive points over replacement? If that’s accurate, I wonder how they calculate that.

This road trip to Hoosierville reminds me of a story I heard when I was an undergrad. An Illini student, stressed out by tough classes, decided to take a weekend fishing trip by himself to a rural lakeside B&B in the remote forest east of Bloomington, IN. Thoroughly lost on a dirt road in the night time fog, he spotted an old pickup truck off the side of the road, slightly rocking with steamed up windows. He walked up, and quietly knocked on the driver's window. After a pause, one of the two backwoods teenagers inside slowly rolled down his window half way. Our Illini visitor asked him in a soft voice "How far is the Old Log Inn?" He left still confused, but with a bloody nose. Let's not leave Indiana with a bloody nose on Saturday. Go Illini!

Compared to where I thought this story was going, though…the nosebleed sounds like he was lucky. ;)

It sounded to me like the story was going in a real backwoods, chainsaw-wielding mutants direction. LoL

Yes, that's what it is, and I'm not sure how it's calculated. He has the calculations for his offensive PRPG (which is actually PORPAGATU, or points over replacement per adjusted game at that usage). Not sure if the defensive metric also takes into account usage, but it seems to.

The one who is playing well for IU is Race Thompson. He gives them some length. He goes about 6'9". He really helps Davis with rebounding. I would assume Grandison will guard him. Just can't let them go off on 3's. Thought the same thing about Wisc but they shot 3 for 24. Play def and the our shots will fall. With the weather the way it is I wonder what their crowd will be like. It is showing a sell out. Go ILLINI!

Didn’t Thompson have a real nice game against Illini last year?

I think the most shocking thing there is Plummer coming in at 15. He's definitely improved his D significantly since the beginning of the season, but damn. I assume having 3 teammates in the top 5 certainly helps a ton, though. Also, interestingly, he's 11 spots higher than Jaden Ivey.

Typically Indiana is not a good shooting 3 team

It might help that Plummer is generally matched up with the other teams weakest player

We need to bring the same intensity to this game as the last game

We need to hustle for every lose ball and minimize their offensive rebounds

We need to play our pace and exert our will

I see no way that at MSU is an easier game than this one against Indiana.
i think an argument can be made

Both have only lost one game at home

Michigna for indiana
NW for MSU.......and barely escaped minnesota

and indiana has 2 big wins at home (purdue/OSU) while MSU hasnt had a big home test yet

And 6 of MSUs 8 wins are vs the bottom 4 in the conference

Looking at matchups, they have a lot of 6’3-6’7 wings. I can see why they defend well. Their length could give us some problems on the perimeter. Might be a nice game for one or more of the freshmen to step up.

Of course, I don’t think they have an answer for Kofi down low. Could be similar to a Maryland type game. Glad we will have Kofi for this one!

IMO, TJD plays at the 4 in this one. Which means he'll get his. If he guarded Kofi, he'd be at risk for foul trouble. I see Race guarding him first and Derr getting more time (he did a decent job on Edey in the Purdue matchup). I can see TJD helping on the weak side and getting a few blocks on Kofi. Offensively though, I think their 3 and 5 spots producing very little.

Our advantage lies at the 1-2 positions. Both teams are great defensively, but I see IU turning the ball over even more that we do this game. Xavier J gets out of control at times.

A last note, I'm sure Trent circled this game on the calendar. TJD on the defensive watch list??? Nah, Trent is gunna shut somebody's water off.
