I expected more from Hawkins. He hasn't taken that proverbial jump from freshman to sophomore. Actually, it looks like his minutes keep declining, game by game. Probably a lot of them are spread around between Goode and Melendez. But I think we can be assured Underwood knows what he's doing; he's planning carefully. I just wish I could see more of Podz.
Didn't Podz come from a smaller HS? I seem to remember some talk about him being a big fish in a small pond. That could have something to do with it.

I am not aware of Reeves. I am not sure I should name my guess. He is finishing his 4th season. Lots of teams would be interested. I can see why he might be interested in Illinois, and the big ten. Just a guess that makes sense to me.
Pretty impressive stroke. Very quick release. Somebody will need to fill the Plummer void.

Goode and Melendez have more size than Podz. This gives them a little more versatility in where they play. (2-4) Podz is limited to the 2-3, which is also where we have the most depth at the moment. Based on usage, I'd bet none of the freshmen have separated themselves as far better than the others. It seems like Brad is giving minutes to whomever had the best week. CoHawk is seemingly fighting with those guys for the same minutes.

I would say that is an effort thing not a skill thing. I think Hawkins has the physical tools to do anything Jake can do. He can shoot from outside, has decent handles for a bigger guy, has some foot speed to cover the perimeter. His issue is he hasn't put all of those skills together to be a basketball player like Jake.
How do you know he can shoot from the outside? He hasn't shown it in games (practice is only a start). I agree he has physical tools and I hope he stays. But he needs to focus on doing a few things well. If I was advising him on the offseason, I'd tell him to shoot > 50,000 jump shots. He needs to have that jumper down from the outside as well as from 10-12 feet. Rebound, play D, and hot some jumpers, and stop being careless with his handle.

Yeah, Hawkins is completely unplayable right now- he’s a foul and turnover machine and just looks lost out there

He’s got the talent and will put it together but it’s been a rough stretch

I see that Dawson Garcia has left the NC basketball team to be with his family due to family members’ health issues. I recall we had him locked up and then NC presented him with some ridiculous NIL numbers and he chose them instead. Wish him the best going through tough times.

Joel Goodson

ties will be resolved
He did. He was also remarkably close to committing to the beloved until some shady stuff happened with DePaul. Just a hunch for the time being...
All true, but...OA is gone now. Not saying that's a show stopper, but OA was the guy with Jones (both from DR).

Most definitely an athletic talent. Looks like his hoopin' skills have advanced too.

This is the guy I think Loyalty insiders are hinting about (and only because they aren't saying "no"). ;-)
If someone is still playing the year out, it might not be a good idea to let it be known that you might transfer next year. Some fans, some alumni, some players, some coaches, some students could make it rough. There are reasons L'ville never gave names or hints. That is not who I think it could be.

Maybe it helps having 3 neighbors (PR) playing already for us.

Hawkins is playing too tight. He is scared of making a mistake. Hopefully we blow NW out of the gym and give him an extended run on the court so he can relax and show his talent. He can get his shot anytime he wants but refuses to shoot.

He needs to watch some Kevin Durant highlights and say that is the future me!

While I agree, it's worth noting that just about every player with eligibility "might" transfer next year.

Antonio Reeves? Is that the mystery guard we've been talking about? He's having a heck of a season. Any chance this (if it does happen) opens the Simeon pipeline back up?
Nice looking player 20 ppg 37% from 3. Did we ever recruit him? Been a while since we got somebody from Simeon. Kendrick was last one I remember.

still only shooting 28% from 3 though, 7% as a Fr on very limited shots. That would make me say, there are a lot of other players out there.
Just my thinking. If someone lets it out at midseason they might want to transfer to U of I, why do that then? They must feel they will be able to compete at a position of need. Why Illinois if they are that good? Why leave the team you are with? We are losing Trent and DMFW, they would know about the incoming freshmen. Maybe let the staff know to not look at the portal for that position.

Relaxing is the opposite of what he needs to do. That's the reason he's had difficulties.
