He has not been taking his shot because he hasnt been making them. If you go back and watch earlier games hawkins only made shots where both feet were planted. Any time one or the other foot had movement after the carch and it was a miss.

Nice looking player 20 ppg 37% from 3. Did we ever recruit him? Been a while since we got somebody from Simeon. Kendrick was last one I remember.

We didn't offer him. He was not highly rated out of HS. Looks like his biggest offer was SLU other than that all low majors. He's having a breakout year though.

Hawkins should drive to the hoop and try to dunk the ball. Worst case he gets free throws. He has a good first step for a big guy.

While I agree, it's worth noting that just about every player with eligibility "might" transfer next year.
Those who have fulfilled their four years may be more likely. Fifth year covid transfers looking for a winning program on a big stage, with scouts at every game, and would probably start, imho.

I expected more from Hawkins.

I saw an endless parade of posters getting on the Hawkins bandwagon during the offseason and early games against weak teams. I figured that would end badly --not because he wasn't improving, but because I figured that like most bigs, he'd be inconsistent as underclassmen, and would get a lot of negativity when that happened. It's not like he came in here as a top-50 guy, or surprised his first year. He needs time.

But he always starts his move with a bad upfake...
He needs to have an idea of what he's going to do when he makes a move - option a and b and maybe c. That's why I say "playing relaxed" is not the prescription for him. He needs to play focused. Don't just put the ball on the floor cause you're comfortable putting in on the floor. Put it on the floor with a purpose. If you don't know what you're going to do, don't start dribbling. That's for guards at the top of the key.

Who among these guys can play D?

The less these guys play D, the more ready they are for today’s NBA. Routine scores in the 130s and 140s. Halftime scores in the 70s and 80s.

Defense in the NBA is so... yesterday.

When many guys leave now from College Ball, they leave their D cred behind along with their college memories. If they had any D cred in the first place.

Good D is a beautiful thing. It makes the scoring of a hoop something of value. And it’s a joy to watch Scorers get so frustrated when someone is on them like a glove.

The College Game still values D. The NBA... not so much any more.

Ayo on the bulls, I’ve watched a lot of NBA. The good teams do play good defense. I’ve noticed defending the high pick and roll is the biggest challenge (something the Bulls struggle with).

This is honestly a pretty laughable take. NBA defense is really good its just the offense is so much better. As we say with Ivey good offense beats good defense. Every player in the NBA can make shots with a hand in their face and they have more room to operate than in college.

Agreed. I used to think there was no defense in the NBA, but that was out of ignorance and I've watch the Bulls all season this year due to Ayo.

Great shooters everywhere in the NBA, which makes defending the pick-and-roll so difficult. I also actually think they call a ton less ticky-tack fouls on the interior in the NBA than they do in college, so the defense is better near the hoop.

However, the #1 reason for higher scores is the shorter shot clock and a 48-minute game instead of a 40-minute game.

And the rules prevent you from playing traditional defensive principles on top of enforcing freedom of movement.
