It is just incredible to me how far we have come in recruiting in just a couple years. We couldn’t fill a roster with P5 players and now we don’t have enough spots to fit all the studs who want to play here. Thank you, Ayo, Trent, DMFW, Coach U, Geoff, Chester, and Tim. This is a great time to be an Illini fan!

And we've all had a good education on just what the word 'Elite' really means.

Thank you Illini for reclaiming your 'Elite' place in college ball, and to all those who are working to make this a reality.

Restoring a great legacy is a beautiful thing. And maintaining it is an Illinois imperative.

Noblesville Illini

Nappanee, IN
I really have no idea why he is not more highly rated. I can't think of a recent recruit more ready to come in and contribute.
That's easy. Unless you're flashy, you get looked over. Use Trent Frazier as the ultimate example. Has basically the best defender numbers in the country and he SOMEHOW doesn't get on the Naismith list? SMH. Ultimately, even the dumbest scouts figure it out after the guy wins championships!!!

He scores too inconsistently to get on the DPOY watch list. LOL

There are a lot of really good players around the country. I think he's rated about where he should be. Keep in mind he's a 6'6 guy that doesn't have much offense outside of 10 feet. That's not a prescription for being ranked high.

FWIW, I don't care about his ranking. I like the pickup. His tenacious attitude will fit in well.

Has anyone heard anything more about this? Reyna is a top Guard prospect for the Illini, already a 4 star kid and elite PG. He follows me and likes a lot of my pro-ILL tweets so I've always gotten a strong vibe from him. Hope he's ok
He made a tweet saying he is going to take some time away. Strange because its almost time for the state playoffs. Talented team around him. Bigs, Freshman, the whole works. I hope that he gets it together.

Yes him too...big loss there.
Although love for him to figure out another yr of covid eligibility, I think he may have one still...
I'd love to have him back. Our group of guards, talented as they seem, could probably use an elder statesman.

Yeah, based on things the freshmen this year have said publicly, I don't think this staff is sugar coating their expectations. The way to floor time at Illinois is to convince the coaches that you can do your job defensively.
I'm excited to see this young man play. Most of the video's are a few years old. I know he was sidelined for a period of time with a foot injury, but I assume he has advanced some of the skills that were apparent in his AAU days. I he stays healthy and follows his fitness/nutrition plan, he could earn a significant role.
I'm reminded of what Henson used to say: "If they're not playing defense, well then they can just come and sit with me."

This is not just Henson or BU. Most coaches approach things the same, especially with FR. Play good defense and do it consistently and you'll likely get PT. If a kid is a lottery type talent on offense that's only going to be around one year, then there might be a little slack in this. But not much.

As much as he loves him I would be surprised if Underwood ever has someone like Kofi again. I would bet that either Kofi is back or the starting 5 isn't on the roster.
Dainja might be your man.

Rogers reminds of Roger Powell a bit.

Rogers looks like a bigger version of Talen Horton Tucker, but best future comp might be Micah Bridges. We need this type of player, much more impressed than before. MSU and Villanova seem to always have this type player. Melendez and Rogers should form a solid duo at the 3-4 spots.

Just throwing it out there on Rodgers before we give him his Fr. All American award, we are viewing highlights. He is not a great outside shooter.
If Underwood really wants to endear himself to the Irvins for recruiting benefits, he should really just go teach them how to coach.

Kenwood has at least 4 P5 recruits on their roster and they've got 7 losses. Every summer, the Fire is just overloaded with talent, and they win nothing. It's almost unbelievable how they can consistently do so little with so much. I don't even have much faith we'll get to see Kenwood on TV for the state title.

Given their coach’s tweets during our Loyola loss last year, he believes he needs to teach Underwood how to coach. LOL.

DMW, offensively, was a more dynamic player in H.S. than Rodgers. He could score and create offensive all over the court. Obviously his injury affected his playing style.

Rodgers is more the in-your-face physical beast at the same stage.
Yeah, I think the injury slowed down Monte. Monte seemed much faster then and while still a good leaper, not nearly as explosive as then.

Ahhhh....Mystery 2 guard.....the transfer from ADVERTISEMENT. Heard he can really drive in traffic.
Question for the board...does anyone know if this player is in the portal yet?

#373
They are not.
Someone on Twitter is talking to others via DM about this transfer option. A friend wouldn't tell me specifically who this guy said it was, but he said I'd be excited if it happens. And the kid currently plays in the Midwest. (?) No clue if the Twitter account or my friend are full of it. That's the most info I've heard FWIW.

Most likely would be Antonio Reeves since his coach just got fired at ISU.

Or the three and the other three. Let's just say they'll play on the wings.
