Oh yeah, that’s fair. I’m with ya. How’s that saying go…? Anybody who thinks money doesn’t matter has never had to worry about it…I didn’t mean to imply that. I’ve had to worry about once or twice. Lol.

It WOULD be hard to turn down that kind of money…damn hard. It’s just that their initial D-1 salaries weren’t too shabby to begin with…in addition to being a hot commodity …a lot of times it seems they might actually end up hurting their their earning potential by going maybe a couple places in a row and crashing and burning. But, certainly not always.
Unless a coach is already at a blue blood school, they are constantly worried about losing their job or working to advance to the next level. They know that as much as they have accomplished at their current job, the clock starts ticking with the first losing season/tourney miss. Coaches need to be strategic when considering a move. Has my recent success created a roster rebuild situation? Can I get more money somewhere else? Is it easier to recruit at a new school? What’s my relationship with the AD?

TAMPA, Fla. — In the end, one bad season proved to be too much for Mizzou basketball to stomach another year of Cuonzo Martin. Martin will not return next season as the head coach of the Missouri men’s basketball program, the Post-Dispatch first reported Friday afternoon, not long after Martin and MU’s traveling contingent returned to Columbia from Tampa, Florida, where the Tigers’ season ended with Thursday’s loss in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament. Mizzou officially announced the decision Friday evening.

This was Martin’s third losing season in five years at MU, but the Tigers were far closer to breaking even in the other two. This season, the crowds at Mizzou Arena became more sparse than usual as MU ranked 12th in attendance among SEC teams, averaging 6,600 fans per home game. In November, Martin signed his highest-rated recruit since his first few weeks on the job five years ago, four-star forward Aidan Shawn, but that wasn’t enough to inspire hope he could revive the program in the near future .Instead, the Tigers will launch a fifth head-coaching search in the last 16 years, a turnstile that underscores the program’s failures to maintain any shred of success over the last two decades.

Missouri Tigers fire men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin after five seasons, drawing criticism from rival coaches

Good thing I didn't have coffee in my mouth when I read this. "Rival Coaches" means (1) Rick Barnes and (2) Bill Self. Two of them. Two.

Translation of Bill Self's comment:

"Gosh; it sucks when two rivals fire coaches whose teams KU has been dominating for years while they've been at the helm."

Bill, meet Tom Izzo.
I assume you are referring to Izzo’s comments on Weber’s firing?

If so, for the record, Weber was 8-7 vs Izzo during his 9 years at Illinois. A fact often ignored by posters that hate Izzo for his comments criticizing Mike Thomas post firing.

I'm aware that Weber did well against MSU, but didn't know the record. Also aware that Izzo's comments were motivated by the fact that they were friends. I invoked him because IMO it was inappropriate for him to comment as he did about Weber's firing. It wasn't directly analogous to Self's obvious incentive to keep Weber and Martin in place, but it was transparently self-serving all the same.

I respect your opinion but wanted to state the facts because it seems many aren’t aware or don’t remember. 👍

Read that article and thought the exact same thing. Coaches love having a rival team with a coach that is a good guy but a bad coach.

Listening to Dakich this morning...
1. He says "an Illinois fan this morning told me on Twitter to go F myself...that was nice."
2. The next caller says he has been friends with clownzo for 30 years and a lot of people pushing for him and Weber to rejoin the coaching staff at Purdue as assistants....

Who cares? Illinois should perennially be near the top of the league, and we never really were from 2008 to 2012. Made room for Izzo.

I guess the people who say that Izzo wanted Weber to stay so he could continue to pad his record against us care?

Izzo was at the top long before Weber got here so I hardly think that made room for him.

While being a good coach, izzo is very irritating. He is a constant look at me guy. At the same time I do believe his comments concerning Weber's firing here was just an example of standing up for a friend.
