I think KSU has to "pull out all the stops," in at least a somewhat credible way, to get Brad in order to appease their boosters that they did all they could. I think that's all this is. I have a feeling they're just doing what they have to do so that when they hire somebody more realistic they can at least tell their boosters "we offered X, Y and Z, and had phone conversations with him on [insert dates] and had [insert name of booster] badger him some more on [insert date] and he still said no!" I would be shocked if BU went for the reasons you outline in your post. I can't imagine he'd want to start a rebuild when he's just at the fun part of this rebuild, i.e. the part where you enjoy the fruits of your labor!

I don't hate this type of move for a high-major with a reasonable track record of success. I think Florida has to decide if they're going to be ok being the type of program that usually gets into the tournament, occasionally gets to the second weekend, and makes a Final Four once in a blue moon, or if they want to try and grab the brass ring. I can't find fault in their decision either way, to be honest with you.

Yep, put most simply … we want coaches, players and fans to think of Illinois as a program with deep pockets and no shyness for digging into the war chest if it means helping Illini sports thrive. I remember people complaining about Underwood’s, Lovie’s and Bielema’s salaries … I say to them we are not a mom and pop shop, we’re the sole major state school in one of the biggest states in the country. It made me so happy to see a few KSU posts saying they “likely could never match what Illinois could offer.” Never thought I’d here that back in the day! Welcome change.
Would Michigan or Arizona or Syracuse or OSU lose a coach to Kansas? I’m guessing no, and we shouldn’t either! In the event that’s a thing, literally break the bank to make a statement that this isn’t a stepping stone job.
Most of those guys had significantly more decorated careers as players, and very little actual coaching experience. (particularly in the NCAA)
Another reminder of the incredible string of self-righteous pussies that Coach K, the “leader of men” produced during his tenure. He kept most of them close to him as assistant coaches. It makes one wonder what they had to do to get the job.
