This is one of the main reasons I would like a transfer guard that is a good-great defender. Give our talented freshmen guards somebody to learn from and be challenged by, and a fail-safe in case they are slow to learn the system/principles. A transfer guard like Plummer that is offense-only would not be a good fit imo.

Also think defense is another reason Brad's not going to be able to keep Ty from seeing a good amount of playing time. Typical freshmen blind spots (defense, passing, cajones) are the things I'm least concerned about with him.
Thought this years frosh played with confidence and IQ. Don’t think we should be be automatically putting next years recruits ahead of them in playing time. They have all had a year of practice time in the system even if they had limited time in games. Podz and Goode not going to be easy to play over. They have size, strength, defensive energy, and the ability to shoot. (RJ is a given starter). May take a few games to sync the team but they have talent.

It's O&B Koolaid hype season, where every incoming recruit is going to be the new Dee/Deron, and every freshman is going to make a big sophomore leap and the only problem is we got too many great players.. more than we know what to do with. Whoop Whoop!
If our new players are really good, and our old players all get better, the sky's the limit!

Idk what to tell you guys other than the days of gloom & doom are no more. Given the direction of the program and it's recent results, combined with roster projections, the general outlook should be a pretty darn optimistic one, wouldn't you say?
have said it multiple times - the trajectory of the team/program is nearing or surpassing the level of early 2000's

Don't think starting 5 will be as good as 2004-2005 but the top 10 will be more talented. Hopefully by March 2023 we will be making noise

I agree. We will have the deepest team since the 01 team with Cook, Griffin, Sergio, Frankie, Bradford starting and Archibald, Johnson, Harrington and Krupalia off the bench

If Kofi returns and we add TSJ (or a similar talent), I would agree. But can't assume those two things.

That 2001 team was unusually deep. I feel like there was another player you didn't name that was also in the rotation. But regardless, we actually had a 8-9 man rotation at season's end, which is rare in college basketball.

I would agree in almost any other year, but if we get TSJ it's going to be tough for Ty to steal minutes from RJ, Hawkins, TSJ, and Goode. Unless BU goes with a huge lineup and leaves our smaller guards on the bench.

02 was deep as well, maybe not quite as deep but still deep, Griffin and McClain graduated, but Luther Head and Nick Smith (a redshirt in 01) came into the rotation, and they added a guy in Blandon Ferguson, who I think was a JuCo recruit, that saw regular minutes as well. 02 had a freshman Roger Powell that was buried outside of the 2-deep. When that's your 11th man, you know you're a deep team. Kruger and Self really had us recruiting at a very high level. It was a steady line those years until it came time for Weber's guys to step in. I think even up to the class with McBride/Randle/Carter, those were still originally Self recruits and Weber's first group was Pruitt and Brock and things really fell off from there.

Random thought: I'd love to see a practice/scrimmage with Ty Rodgers and RJ matching up. If RJ is bound to take a big step next year, going against a dude with the athleticism/body/tenacity of Ty could serve him well

I'm gonna miss having him initiate our offense with that little hop-skip thing he does. One of those little peculiarities I became so accustomed to seeing, and typically followed by some smart play.
Funny enough, one of my step kiddos picked up that idiosyncracy from him after watching a few Illini games this year. If he ends up with half the junkyard dog attitude on defense that Trent had, I'll be happy.

RJ reminds me of Peter Jok. Long, athletic, good shooter, can score from all 3 levels. He went from 7ppg as a sophomore to 16ppg as a junior.

And those Iowa teams didn't really have anyone else, except JBo chucking 3s.

To continue the Iowa comparison....imagine Jok, Garza, and Weiskamp on the same team. Could we have that with RJ, Kofi, and Goode? Plus all the other talent in this roster.... Man this could be a very scary team if all the pieces come together.
Ew... just ew

I dont know if this was mentioned, but Kofi has a deadline of April 24. He must know by then if he is staying or going. Now he tested the draft waters twice & can not go through the process a third time. If he puts his name in the draft, there is no coming back.

He could sell ice cream to eskimos.
And eskimos should enjoy ice cream.

I’m not sold. Just like his demeanor and perspective. I really like how his teams play, including ours with him at the helm, despite his losses to Bucknell and others in the ncaa tournament.

Selling would be those coaches that speak a good game and have nothing to show for it.

Purdue's reign of unsettling and awkward terror continues as they sign another 7-footer (this one from Sweden): Will Berg.

This kid looks like he's about 12. Except he's 7 feet tall.

I could be mistaken but I thought Illinois was briefly involved with him at one point.

His nickname will be "Ice".
“Ice” Berg is pretty good. But how about:
“Nord” Berg?
