I think this board would be 1/3 of the amount of pages if we stuck to recruiting news…
It could be, but it won’t ever happen. People need to talk about neck size, mention players that aren’t coming m 63 times, offer their expertise on admissions, and wax poetic about the 3 point shot and how much they hate the portal. Talking about all of these things will cause change to happen…or maybe not, but where else will they post it

My new strategy for reading the daily recruiting thread. Begin at page one, read the first few posts, then skip to the last page. If the posts are about which cereal is best, then I'm done, and fully informed!

Yep, it would be nice if at the very least we could at least focus on basketball and hopefully Illini hoops.

Looks like Michigan feels confident to get TSJ. They could be a really tough team if they get some others to return

Well I stand by my point which is I don't really care about the consternation of people about players leaving because others are coming in. That's why I responded to that very point that you made.

As to this not having any significance, I hope you're right. We've apparently lost out on some targets we wanted and there have been other players who apparently didn't have much interest that we would have wanted. Yes, there's lots of time, but the importance of the portal this year is much greater than last year. Kofi coming back made the Payne washout not a big deal. Plummer was a great addition, but I think we could have survived not having him fairly well.

We need to add some experience in my opinion. Hope it's on the way.
No, I respectfully disagree.

Edit: I see someone already called this out

It used to be a thing where a school could block a player from transferring to another school, in conference. I know that's no longer a thing...but are there any recent examples of a player transferring from one B1G school to another?
Not sure how you’d define “recent,” but Carvell Aamons transferred from Northwestern to Illinois, Sam Okey went from Wisconsin to Iowa and Luke Recker went from Indiana to Iowa (by way of Arizona).

Going back even further, Derek Holcomb started at Indiana and transferred to Illinois.

The other side of this is if you have a center who can shoot, it opens up the lane for slashers. We couldn’t penetrate at all this year. One reason, is it was sometimes clogged by Kofi, another I think was our guards weren’t good penetrators except Curbelo.

I would love to see an open lane for Melendez, Clark, Epps, etc
True. That would be a huge asset.

I feel like there were times they could have maybe penetrated more than they did…but it’s this idea of:…Okay…I’m 6 ft do I wanna dribble in there and probably eat it?
(I’d better have a shot vocabulary like Maravich at my height.) I guess maybe I’d better stick to the game plan and feed our 2 time All-American…:)
Which isn’t too bad of an idea when you consider the dude converted on about 80%
of his shots. (Well, at least at one point he did. Right?)

You COULD see that occasionally Fletch and the weight room helped us in finishing around the rim. But, obviously brawn can’t completely negate lack of height. You just sorta need both. (Well, unless you’re Andre Feliz, I guess?)

Anyways, IMO the best example is Ayo…who had the height his freshman year…but sometimes would get trapped under the backboard with no where to go or it would leave his hands before he could feel the contact and then muscle it in… FForward to Soph. Yr. when he got the beef and body control to go with it…he really had something then.

Plummer definitely got a few weight room lay ups…here and there last year. Trent put on a clinic driving to the basket against Michigan the year before last. But, neither one could pull it off consistently.

And for that reason (lack of guard height) I’m thinking this probably also generally ruled-out…any type of Laker-cut, give-and-go stuff through your Shaq-esque center.

Okay, I'll focus on Illini hoops. Is there anything new on Whitmore, Nance or other top transfer targets? And since others have taken a shot at this, here's my starting lineup for next season: Clark, Goode, Melendez, Hawkins and Dainja. There's plenty of talent there, but also lots of inexperience. This group would take some time to gel.

Didn’t Miller Kopf go from NW to Indiana way back in… last year?

The guys close to the staff on here have made it clear that Goode isn’t a 2 and isn’t starting.

I would assume 2 transfers will be starting in that mix you said

David Jones and a transfer big is my guess. Dain could definitely still start though

More recently, Miller Kopp from NW —> IU
