Uhh, a college post player knocking down
3’s is way down the wishlist. That’s a luxury…not a necessity.

I think first and foremost you want a post with post skills…hopefully he can rebound, defend, and run the floor with some endurance too. If you’ve got that you’ve got something. (Basic to fair passing ability…doesn’t have to pass like Walton.)

IMO things like a jumper and a semi-hook are of secondary importance. But I think the kinds you’d hope to see next. IMO
The other side of this is if you have a center who can shoot, it opens up the lane for slashers. We couldn’t penetrate at all this year. One reason, is it was sometimes clogged by Kofi, another I think was our guards weren’t good penetrators except Curbelo.

I would love to see an open lane for Melendez, Clark, Epps, etc

I don't think you understood the point of my post.

The poster I was responding to was talking about how losing some players, and not yet replacing them, was making them anxious. I suggested that adding players prior to any leaving would just produce a different kind of anxiety in our fanbase.

The point was to relax. Let things play out. The roster is far from being set, and the current transition state we are in probably won't have any significance in a month or two. Enjoy the ride.
Well I stand by my point which is I don't really care about the consternation of people about players leaving because others are coming in. That's why I responded to that very point that you made.

As to this not having any significance, I hope you're right. We've apparently lost out on some targets we wanted and there have been other players who apparently didn't have much interest that we would have wanted. Yes, there's lots of time, but the importance of the portal this year is much greater than last year. Kofi coming back made the Payne washout not a big deal. Plummer was a great addition, but I think we could have survived not having him fairly well.

We need to add some experience in my opinion. Hope it's on the way.

For the most point our guards couldn’t beat their man off the dribble and then finish. RJ was our best and didn’t get enough minutes to demonstate his ability to beat his man regularly

With king in the lane it enabled defenders to help and recover on our penetrators.

22-23 will have some growing pains but like the talent before rounding out roster via portal.

Did Illini really have anything more than a passing interest in Hopkins — if even that? Just cuz a lot of people on here might have wanted him doesn’t mean BU did. If missing on two “recruits” has you worried, the recruiting thread might not be the place to be.
I'm sure he got a heads up from OA....

Remember when we hadn't heard about RJ...and most on here believe in him...things are probably near...if they're close on someone it's probably going through admissions..and we should hear something reasonably soon.

None of our guards, outside of Curbelo (who was never fully healthy), were even average at penetrating. Trent and Plummer were outside shooters and that's about it. And DMW and Jake, if you consider them guards, weren't good at penetrating.

Disagree completely... Plummer had that stretch early in the year he scored 20+ in 7 of 8 games... his shooting singlehandedly kept us in and won us tons of huge games... he faded towards the end of the year but the whole offense did. I don't think we are close to 23-10 last year without him.
