I mean boosters and people paying NIL are not mutually exclusive but they are different. If the poster is just a booster giving money to UofI that is not going into a student athletes pocket. The university cannot pay players. The players can sign deals with basically whoever for whatever but the school is only involved at arm's reach to make sure it is in compliance. If there was ever a time to donate it is now... There is a real chance there a tiers of schools in NCAA sports based on NIL pools. I'd rather not get relegated in this system.
Would you call Michigan a blue blood though? For basketball?
We're improving as a program but no, this is just not true.Illinois is more of a basketball blue blood than Michigan
I’m listening …Illinois is more of a basketball blue blood than Michigan
Wasn’t Kofi still being at Illinois part of the deal for TSJ?Thought TSJ was a ?
I would imagine that many of the posters wanting a portal lead guard also complained that DmW took time from the freshmen last year. I have faith Underwood Is doing all he can for the best of the team.I disagree. They are still freshman and one is coming off an injury. The B10 and power 5 hoops isn't AAU or High School. Talented or not they will need to adjust and we need some experience that Underwood brings up all the time. I expect that we add an experienced lead guard. They clearly have been looking for one

I’ve always thought of this place as more of a newly installed roundabout… wait which lane do I need to be in to go left and which lane do I need to be in to ask on Bryce Hopkins status?Loyalty is a two way street.
Yes, but the last decade or two also matters. Nobody would ever say Temple is close to being a blue blood.Blue Blood is about history, not just the last decade or two. Illinois is the 16th winningest program in NCAA history. Michigan is not even in the top 50.

Yes because Illinois has played 12 more seasons.Blue Blood is about history, not just the last decade or two. Illinois is the 16th winningest program in NCAA history. Michigan is not even in the top 50.

When Groce took over we had approximately the 9th most wins, if I remember correctly. We have definitely not performed consistenly at the top of this metric over the last decade. Most possible recruits don't know about last 2 decades or more, just the past few years.Yes, but the last decade or two also matters. Nobody would ever say Temple is close to being a blue blood.
You can’t divide the number of wins by the number of seasons lol. That’s not how it works. You gotta divide it by the number of games played.Yes because Illinois has played 12 more seasons.
Michigan: 1676 wins/ 105 seasons= 15.96
Illinois: 1856 wins/ 117 seasons= 15.86
If you come on here, and the topic is "who is more of a blueblood?, or Should I donate to the basketball program?", its a pretty safe bet nothing exciting is happening on the recruiting front. Can you guys start 2 new threads about whether or not Michigan or Illinois is more of a blue blood and about donating to schools? I would prefer the recruiting thread to actually have some recruiting information since I waste so much of my day at work hoping to see new information actually pertaining to recruiting.
Again, wow. My point was not to debate Michigan’s blue blood status to the Illini’s. My point was that we had two Loyalty posters share that TSJ was NOT going to be an Illini 3-4 weeks ago but b/c the news was negative everyone jumped on them.Blue Blood is about history, not just the last decade or two. Illinois is the 16th winningest program in NCAA history. Michigan is not even in the top 50.

Of course not.Would you call Michigan a blue blood though? For basketball?
The graphic the OP used was a counting the number of wins. That’s why I showed how playing 12 fewer seasons is the reason Michigan isn’t higher. They also have significantly better postseason success. Are yale and Penn top ten football programs because they have like 800+ wins?We also have a higher winning percentage than Michigan, so it doesn’t matter that Illinois has played more seasons. You can’t divide the wins by the number of seasons lol. That’s not how it works. You gotta divide it by the number of games played.
Try the women’s basketball thread. A new high profile coach with 5 open scholarships, no insiders, no gifs, no NIL money of which I am aware and days between posts. Can you guys start 2 new threads about whether or not Michigan or Illinois is more of a blue blood and about donating to schools? I would prefer the recruiting thread to actually have some recruiting information since I waste so much of my day at work hoping to see new information actually pertaining to recruiting.
Ok sure, but dividing wins by the number of seasons doesn’t make your argument any stronger. I was trying to point out that IL also has a higher winning percentage than Michigan, which means not only has Illinois played more seasons, it has also consistently won more games. Speaking of ancient wins, most of Michigan football wins were also from the late 1800s and early 1900s lol.The graphic the OP used was a counting the number of wins. That’s why I showed how playing 12 fewer seasons is the reason Michigan isn’t top 50. Are yale and Penn top ten football programs because they have like 800+ wins?
Please do. I need a new player to get obsessed about.Do I need to make something up to get off the Illinois Michigan talk?
