If there was ever a time to donate it is now... There is a real chance there a tiers of schools in NCAA sports based on NIL pools. I'd rather not get relegated in this system.
I mean boosters and people paying NIL are not mutually exclusive but they are different. If the poster is just a booster giving money to UofI that is not going into a student athletes pocket. The university cannot pay players. The players can sign deals with basically whoever for whatever but the school is only involved at arm's reach to make sure it is in compliance.

Obviously it behooves UofI to make sure there are NIL opportunities and that is why these collectives have popped up for a lot of the bigger schools

I disagree. They are still freshman and one is coming off an injury. The B10 and power 5 hoops isn't AAU or High School. Talented or not they will need to adjust and we need some experience that Underwood brings up all the time. I expect that we add an experienced lead guard. They clearly have been looking for one
I would imagine that many of the posters wanting a portal lead guard also complained that DmW took time from the freshmen last year. I have faith Underwood Is doing all he can for the best of the team.

We're improving as a program but no, this is just not true.

Blue Blood is about history, not just the last decade or two. Illinois is the 16th winningest program in NCAA history. Michigan is not even in the top 50.

Ricky Council out of Wichita State might be a really good fit. His 3-pt% is low, but he's a 6'6 guard. Staff has reached out according to a guy named Dushawn London.

Any coach who recruits using NIL money without considering the impact on his locker room will more likely than not end up with a train wreck for a team. I believe BU understands there is a balance somewhere out there. He will definitely need NIL resources, but it will take a lot more than just money to build a successful program. Frazier, Williams, Kofi are prime examples of the kind of young men BU helps develop. BU knows the kind of team he wants representing UI, and I support his vision.

Can you guys start 2 new threads about whether or not Michigan or Illinois is more of a blue blood and about donating to schools? I would prefer the recruiting thread to actually have some recruiting information since I waste so much of my day at work hoping to see new information actually pertaining to recruiting.

Yes, but the last decade or two also matters. Nobody would ever say Temple is close to being a blue blood.
When Groce took over we had approximately the 9th most wins, if I remember correctly. We have definitely not performed consistenly at the top of this metric over the last decade. Most possible recruits don't know about last 2 decades or more, just the past few years.

If you come on here, and the topic is "who is more of a blueblood?, or Should I donate to the basketball program?", its a pretty safe bet nothing exciting is happening on the recruiting front.

These things are tangentially related to recruiting...

Again, wow. My point was not to debate Michigan’s blue blood status to the Illini’s. My point was that we had two Loyalty posters share that TSJ was NOT going to be an Illini 3-4 weeks ago but b/c the news was negative everyone jumped on them.

P.s., As a Cubs fan I am thrilled to know that we can be discussed in the same breath as the Yankees, et al., b/c from 1906-1910 we killed it! Four World Series in 5 years!

We also have a higher winning percentage than Michigan, so it doesn’t matter that Illinois has played more seasons. You can’t divide the wins by the number of seasons lol. That’s not how it works. You gotta divide it by the number of games played.
The graphic the OP used was a counting the number of wins. That’s why I showed how playing 12 fewer seasons is the reason Michigan isn’t higher. They also have significantly better postseason success. Are yale and Penn top ten football programs because they have like 800+ wins?

Try the women’s basketball thread. A new high profile coach with 5 open scholarships, no insiders, no gifs, no NIL money of which I am aware and days between posts.

Ok sure, but dividing wins by the number of seasons doesn’t make your argument any stronger. I was trying to point out that IL also has a higher winning percentage than Michigan, which means not only has Illinois played more seasons, it has also consistently won more games. Speaking of ancient wins, most of Michigan football wins were also from the late 1800s and early 1900s lol.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I’m really hoping we can get David Jones.
