I hope Dain can be consistent with that 18-22ft jumper in game situations. If so he may have a breakout season. The young man has a super quick first step for a big man and can dish the rock really good. I can actually see him initiating some offense. His drive and kick is gonna get us a ton of open shots. He could make us harder to guard as a team then when we had Kofi.
He might as well be consistent from beyond 22 ft because 18-22 feet is a long two so even if he was decent at hitting them they probably won't be optimal shots.

I was just saying I think he can beat most 5s off the bounce if he can make them guard him out by the 3pt line.

I agree. You don’t want your 5 camping out at the 3 pt line. But if he’s a legitimate threat out there, it can allow him to take players off the bounce.

Here's an interesting article about bench use in the ncaa tournament, which has been a debate around here.

Hoopvision is great.

I know there’s been some discussion on this board that it’s not who starts the game it’s who finishes. But clearly for the best teams, the same guys finish the game who started (most of the time).

You also start your best players because getting off to a slow start can mean it doesn’t matter who’s in at the end.

What did Goode do to your Cheerios?
He’s a tweener. I don’t think he’s quick enough to guard ball handlers. And he’s not really big enough to guard the Race Thompson/ Dante Scott’s of the big ten. I think he’s our version of Justin Ahrens from Ohio state. 15-20 mpg. Good shooting from three. Starts some games here and there as a upperclassman. I do think he can make more of a difference passing than ahrens tho.

That's fair. I'm not as high on him as some, he might not see starters minutes until his senior year. But I think he has a knack for hitting big shots and seems to avoid making big mistakes. And his hair is very on brand.

I’ve watched a lot of Ohio state the last couple years and you just described Justin ahrens. Very few mistakes. Hits some big shots. Same size. Similar hair even lol. I don’t think he ever plays 20+ minutes unless guys get in foul trouble. But idk. I said the same things about Damonte. If he defends he’ll play for Brad.

Ahrens is way more one dimensional than I would expect Goode to be this year. I've never been impressed with him as anything other than a spot up shooter (albeit a really good one).

To be honest. A spot up shooter/corner specialist is what I see Goode as. I don’t think he’s gonna be a plus defender because he has very stiff movement. And unless he bulks up I don’t see him guarding true PFs.

Going to edit this a tad, and say BBV will only get minutes when needed such as bodying up Edey or something. I think Hawk at max will be 28 and Goode/TY will get more than that. Also think Harris is not getting 18. See Epps not getting 30 (maybe like 20-25). However, all this does not matter as we will IMO get at least 1 transfer that plays a lot of minutes.

I see Goode as way more impactful than Ahrens in that he can rebound, much better space defender, and hustles all over.

Eh, I realize it’s a really small sample size but I think Goode has shown some really good flashes defensively. Seems to understand rotations and more often than not is in the right spot. Agree he lacks the foot speed to realistically keep up with most 2’s, but I think the consensus on here has been he’s more of a 3/4, and in the Houston game he really held his own against Fabian White, who is a Liddell type player that’s given us problems the last few years.

I don’t know that he will ever be a “plus” defender and highly doubt he ever gets to the level of DMW, but I think he has the potential to be a better defender than Grandison and and may already be.

I think he’s a more versatile piece than Ahrens and am excited to see what he does the next 3 years.

Just because you all are so serious.....dare I say he's a less talented Larry Bird? :) How about a taller, less handsome Doug Altenberger? A more athletic Chucky Doll?
