Unless you really think Miami alum have money burning a hole in their pockets, I think there’s a direct comparison to saying they’re more invested than ours if you think they’re outspending us. I think there’s a direct relationship with passion and investment into a program and while there might be some heavy hitters skewing that, I’d wager we stack up well.

Trent did a ton of NIL stuff, even Hawkins had some campaign. Heck Conner Serven got some in the tournament. Admittedly I don’t follow Miami basketball closely but I’d wager you don’t either and we clearly have had our guys get paid.
I'm not making myself entirely clear. I think Miami overall (when you include football) has probably a more impassioned fan base and probably can bring more dollars to bear. It's an open question about how that all translates into basketball NIL. but right now, a good player got a nice payday through some arrangement.

One issue that isn't mentioned much here is the tension of sorts with the DIA and NIL. To the extend that a donor has a limit on how many dollars he gives then every dollar he provides to a recruit is a dollar that doesn't go to the DIA. They key for universities is going to be figuring out how to get guys to open wider and keep their DIA contribution the same while putting more into NIL.

Right now, the Illinois NIL program is more conjecture than actual hard numbers. Even the Illini Guardians didn't really throw out numbers.

One other thing I'd say is that throwing NIL love to current players is pretty damn important in the current environment. It sure would be nice to hear that a nice hit is coming this year for CoHawk and RJ.

I have no idea if BU is actually pursing him or not. But I think it would be foolish not too.
'Round and 'round we go! That's exactly my original point. All the "Come Home" posts and messages to Miller. You can *want* him to come home all you want, but that doesn't mean he *can* come home or that Underwood WANTS him back. And it's not foolish at all. Don't you think the current head ball coach for the Fighting Illini has a better idea on whether Miller would be a value add to this program or not?

I mean it took BU 30 games to figure out that Rj was more needed than damonte. Coaches can make mistakes. Does that make them bad coaches? Nope. But to sit here and say that coaches know all is also kinda ridiculous. They are humans. They have biases just like we all do. IMO Adam Miller would be a great addition to this roster. So yes it would be foolish to not at least reach out.

My guess is that for most of those 30 games, RJ was not a better fit than Demonte. Like all freshmen, he had a learning curve.

Issue was never with Adam, Brad likely wants nothing to do with his mother again.

I can’t say I disagree that Miamis sport fanbase is probably more passionate in general. Nor do I know how much money flows between sports. I’d wager NIL money is very sport and player specific hence why I’m pretty adamant we’re on similar if not better footing basketball wise. Similar to how I care much more about Illinois basketball than football, I’d want to see my money go to a star on the basketball team. I still love football, but both in terms of team success and national recognition, my moneys going to go further getting a 5 star center a few hundred thousand here rather than a 4 star QB. I honestly haven’t heard of a single Illinois football player getting a NIL deal.

NIL numbers are definitely murky we definitely don’t know the real numbers. Something to keep in mind is I’m pretty sure the university gets its share out of NIL. So a dollar in NIL is some percentage compared to the full amount of donated directly, but the school does get a cut.

The game logs just don’t support this. There was a 3 game stretch (2/8-2/16) where RJ played 38 minutes, scoring 32, with 10 boards on 8-11 FG (4-6 from 3). Damonte during this stretch played 80 minutes and had 9 points and 7 rebounds. The next game he plays 9 minutes to demontes 30 (damonte went 1-4 for 2 points). In the Indiana BTT game RJ played 4 minutes to damontes 20 (damonte scored 0 points). I love BU. And think he’s a great coach. But he missed on the RJ/damonte situation and the game logs show it.

Monte played hard in practice and on the court and played hard nosed defense. I think the loyalty factor influenced Brad too much, but they did win the Big 10, so .... Michael Jordan's High school coach probably regrets not having him on the team when he passed on him at first. Let's celebrate that RJ will be a great player for us and NOW is his time to show. Cool?

You know RJ had appendicitis, right? It happened right after that stretch when things started to click for him. RJ didn't play much in the Iowa and Indiana games because those were his first games back after surgery.

If you are addicted to watching this site, I have another fun one for you: https://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2022. This shows the transfers in the portal and updates in real time any information received, including new entrants into the portal and commitments made. If you are watching this site, you would have known that in the last 10 minutes Jao Ituka from Marist just committed to Wake Forest. (in case you were wondering)

Miami's NIL abilities...whether or not Michigan is a blue blood...you guys sure find some interesting topics to argue about sometimes.

I hope they don't get lost in the weeds as much once I get to Providence.
