To me, this all comes down to whether you trust the staff or not - period.

Weber’s recruiting didn’t capitalize on our NC run and Groce put too many eggs in one basket. So I understand (marginally) why some freak out when Murray goes to G’Town or why there wasn’t an announcement last Friday or what happened to TSJ … some of it is pure curiosity, but the rest of it is just noise.

This staff has shown (over several seasons) the ability to bring in talented players (who are also quality people). To adapt and adjust when necessary and to get us in the conversation (and close the deal) with several big time recruits.

Therefore, Im going to sit back, relax, and trust the staff to fill out our roster with the best fits for this program (regardless of the number of “stars”). We’re on the rise and I couldn’t be more excited about our future.

Summary of yesterdays thread:
We all love Kofi and acknowledge his extreme value to the Illini program
We have lack of consensus on the definition of floor and ceiling
We have lack of consensus on Kofi's impact to said poorly defined floor and/or ceiling
We agree Grayson Allen is probably a bastard son of Bruce Pearl
There is no recruiting news o_O

Its pretty funny

We are defending B10 champions.
We just signed #8 rated recruiting class in country.

And people are predicting gloom and doom over not getting kids in transfer portal who average 10 ppg.

do you even remember Brad's predecessors

Groce
in 5 years
95-75 1 NCAA 3 NIT 1 nothing

Weber
last 5 seasons
98-73 2 NCAA 1 NIT 2 nothing
And that NIT game against Alabama where we didn't even show up should also count as a nothing.

Because of one public deal? Maybe the difference in spending isn’t far off, but you’re kidding yourself if you think the Miami alumni are more invested in their basketball program than we are. Regardless of their lack of football success recently, that’s a football school through and through. And again, plenty of reports Kofi made off better than 400k last year. Other guys definitely had some good money coming in.

It’s short sighted to see Pack sign a 2 year 800k deal and immediately say we’re being outspent.
6,138,333 versus 222,538

The population of Miami metro area versus the CU metro area.

We all have been irritable neighbors lately...me too...we're anxious and out of new and exciting things to talk about...would be nice to see some interesting targets get into the portal...

Miami also has a lot of pro teams taking eyeballs off the 'Canes.

Lots of factors. We certainly have the foundation for a successful NIL program but it doesn't seem to be bearing a lot of fruit to date.
Where would you rather be in the winter... Miami or Champaign?

Yes. This is why everybody in DIA is terrified of Depaul.

Yeah, that and DePaul's powerhouse football program.

Seriously, for a number of years, DePaul somehow managed to be the home college basketball team for the Chicago metro area. Notre Dame was the home college football team for a long time; before fumbling that away to NU.

The obvious point is a large metro area creates realistic opportunities for legitimate NIL deals.
