So basically, 1/3rd of the players in D1 basketball have entered the transfer portal. That seems unsustainable on a year to year basis.
It probably isn't, but as with any brand new thing, it's going to be overutilized until everyone settles into a more sustainable new normal. In my opinion, NIL will actually help stabilize this because the market value of a player will be at least partially tied to team loyalty. Mercenaries don't move product like a multi-year player with a connection to fans. That combined with the fact that a certain number of players will be left teamless will probably slow things down in the coming years.

It’s not like it’s a fake account, he has actual followers. He is a journalist and likely has some connections to our program. Wischnowski may or may not be accurate in his prediction, but he’s not “reading tweets just like everyone else.”
No, he scrapes info off premium sites and presents it as his own

Anyone remember the one all star game that Jayden Epps was supposed to play in? I know we are running out of post season allstar games and I know the Iverson Classic is Saturday and will be shown on television.

Maybe I missed this in the million posts since yesterday…. Everyone is focused on TSJ. Any chance Malachi Smith is thinking about coming home to Illinois? He did enter the portal yesterday. He can certainly score. Can’t beat ‘em…

These are football statistics, but they are wild:
When taking the total number of college transfers into consideration, only around five in 10 players are actually finding a new school to play for.
  • 54% reported enrolling at a new school
  • 41% have not found a new school, are still looking, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport completely
  • 59% of scholarship transfers found a scholarship at a new FBS school
  • 8% left their scholarships and became walk-ons at a new school
  • 33% of players remain without a destination
  • 18% of walk-ons that transferred found a scholarship at a new school
  • About one-third of FCS transfers land a scholarship at a new school
  • 36% of FCS transfers find a new school to sign with at all

That's a lot of athletes that aren't finding a new home. It's going to be really interesting to see the numbers for basketball this fall. I think they're going to be pretty bleak. Soon players are gonna realize entering the portal is a pretty bad gamble.

I don't even know if this is worth typing but... Smith and the speculations around his transfer decision, all point towards South Carolina, which makes sense due to the coaching change.
