Edit: while Austin may have been first, Portland wears it better.
Cuz they mistakenly think it is humorous.
I prefer the pruman's definition of "weird".
Whoa, whoa, whoa... who are you, the opinion police?Cuz they mistakenly think it is humorous.

I kind of get the sentiment and all, but … do the gif/meme haters not realize that these aren’t posted that often when there’s, ya know, actual news? It’s a slow time, and this many people have thankfully become so invested in Illini hoops again that they’d rather create SOME kind of interaction on this message board while we wait rather than stay away!
We've made this case multiple times. I think it's mostly people who got used to the crazy news cycle due to transfers and forgot how slow this time of year actually is. Then that naturally leads them to conclude that we gif-ers are drowning out actual news, which of course we aren't.I kind of get the sentiment and all, but … do the gif/meme haters not realize that these aren’t posted that often when there’s, ya know, actual news? I just figure if they block me, we weren't gonna be internet friends anyway so...We've made this case multiple times. If they still don't believe that then I am out of ideas. They've probably just already blocked everyone who has attempted to make this argument.

One issue is that many are not coming out as an organic response to an ongoing conversation, a comment about the topic, or someone's take on it. So it turns out to be GIFs about GIFs a lot of the time. For the record, I am mostly amused by the GIFs, and I agree it's just that this is a lean time, which again, often does not lend itself to the kind of GIFs that serve as timely commentary. However, their time will come again. Until then, keep practicing...BU may dub you an elite GIFer.Who doesn't like a clever GIF? (purely rhetorical). The problem is that one is faced with a deluge of old or lame GIFs. I think that's primarily what folks are carping about.

I dunno, one of the Kardashians tried to trademark the phrase "rise and shine" which I'm reasonably certain is much older than whichever one of that bunch filed the trademark application. How can you trademark something that started 22 years ago in Austin (and has since been stolen by several other cities)?
First they came for the gifs.....
Why do you even know that?I dunno, one of the Kardashians tried to trademark the phrase "rise and shine" which I'm reasonably certain is much older than whichever one of that bunch filed the trademark application.
Sadly that is true. Austin is not very weird anymore. All the weird stuff because trendy stuff with the inflow of money.
Edit: while Austin may have been first, Portland wears it better.

I just googled "stupid trademarks". I don't waste brain cells on Kardashian facts...I save them for Gilligan's Island trivia. Why do you even know that?
