Without wearing orange tinted glasses how many 5s do we have that gave the skill and size it takes to match up in the B10? Suze wise it's one. We have much more depth at PG than at the 5 and it's not even close. TY may not play meaningful minutes but he us better suited than our 215 / 220lb guy at the 5.

I expect we will add a bigger body even if he isn't a stud to be big enough to play D at the 5 n rebound.

Ill

I agree that it makes sense to add a PF/C.

My comment was re playing Rodgers, a “combo forward” at PG. Skyy and Epps are the only guys you want playing meaningful minutes at PG.

How flippin' great is it that our NIL offer to Mayer was good enough to get him to forego taking visits before he made his decision? Big boy balling, loving it.

We're the ones who knock.

Are you basing that on personal observation or the fact he mostly played combo forward in high school? He has a better handle, court presence, court awareness, and passing skills than Dai Dai Ames or Terry Pettigrew.

He flashed his playmaking skills with 4 assists in 20 minutes at the Jordan Brand Classic and should have had 8. He can also get all the way to rim off the dribble and finish through contact with either hand.

He also has post skills and can rebound. In addition, he's a plus defender with strength and lateral quickness. He does need work on his long range shooting.

There was a hope he was….we made a good offer….went all in on him….put Mayer on the back burner….hence why I thought he was UNC bound when we backed off. We wanted Nance real bad. Pleasantly surprised we got back in there and won this$$$
If true, as I assume it is (0440 cough 0440), THIS IS BIG BOY RECRUITING. Asking (and convincing OMG) a guy of Mayer's stature to wait while went we even higher. This staff is incredible ... with some serious sack.

Welcome Matt!!

Bama and Gonzaga are heavily involved in nance. Don’t expect him after Meyer. Meyer was a money deal and Illinois got it done. And before you say it, I know, I know, first post but I have a connection on this one and it’s not from Illinois.
Welcome Sucks. Please keep reporting on your connection.

The Grinnell System, aka, "The system" relies on shooting three-point field goals, applying constant pressure with a full-court press, and substituting players frequently.

We could be the only team in the country deep enough!
Sounds like the Pitino Kentucky teams from the 90's. Yes, please.

Really excited about Mayer... like him more than Nance even though we probably need more help at the 5. He always made things happen when he was in, would change the tone of the game.
I'll never forget that Baylor game in early 2020-21... looked like they had 7 defenders on the court. Mayer made an impression on me. Glad he's with the beloved. Awesome pickup.

Lieb has been banging with Kofi for at least 2 years...I'm thinking he can eat some minutes if neccessary....
If he can avoid the Edy knock out elbows hea got to be long enough and quick enough to be able to gaurd him. Also he should be able to run laps around the lumbering redwood of a boilermaker

Am I the only one who doesn't see a chance of Dain starting?
Dain will start unless Tim Anderson is full of it. Which he may be stretching it a little when he called Dain our best player and likely a one and done but he has to start unless we add someone. I think Dain currently is by far our best option at the 5. He is the only guy we have built to and hopefully that can defend the post. Hawk was our 4th option last year at the 5. Against teams without a true 5 maybe then Hawk could start but not most games.

Anderson says dain is a one and done is taken out of context

Well… what’s going on with Grandison now? Overseas, G League potential, back to Illinois? He never publicly entered the portal. View attachment 18345
It seems to me that it means he is coming back. If he is looking at going professional, there is little reason to pull out of the draft. He never entered the transfer portal. It is possible that he could get a waiver. Now I could be wrong (obviously) but unless he truly thought he would get drafted, he is back. Illinois will be overloaded at the wing this year, but life will happen. Somebody or bodies will get hurt. Somebody will not be as good as expected. Somebody will not be happy. With two open rides this seems like a win. Just my two cents. Feel free to disagree.

Thank you, in particular, for knowing this phrase, instead of the oft used “a tough road to hoe.” Although, hoeing macadam would be particularly difficult.

Well done, my friend. And props for introducing a wee bit of the Scots into the thread with "macadam."

I'm tempted to start a thread concerning malapropisms. I'll open with "A shutter ran through him." 'Cause we're Midwesterners at heart and that kind of thing can happen in a tornado.

Highly, highly doubt that Grandison ever felt he'd be drafted.

As to transferring, he doesn't need a waiver (grad transfer). My 2 cents: if minutes are key, he's leaving.

Still he will start at the 5 as of today. Playing Hawk at the 5 in certain situations is one thing but starting him constantly is another. I would be shocked if we don't add a true 5 to assist at the 5. Hopefully Nance but not expecting that. I am just curious who that may be. Has anyone heard anything on who they are looking at?

I am not well informed about how NIL works. When people are talking NIL offers and Illinois getting it done what does mean exactly?????
