Nete Pance actuallyWow, this thread is getting really confusing? I thought I was caught up an hour or so ago. Now I have no idea what you all are talking about. Are we still talking about Pete Nance?

Bryce Hopkins.....
The news I just heard…
Just wondering, do you realize we can see your post history if we press on your name?
The news I just heard…
It is true that his injury changed the projection of that team, but it happened the year before. If I recall he reinjured it again in 78, but he was never the player he was as a freshmen. That was my class and I felt bad for him and the team.Wow, this was news to me. He played in 27 games according to the stats, although there's plenty of reason for people to say he had a season ending injury. It's oft cited, including in an article I found in the Tribune. Reading one of Eddie Johnson's comments he talks of him getting injured. So perhaps the legend of "season ending" came from an injury that affected his game.
I have an idea for the perfect gif for this but don't have time to make it, sadly. It involves a certain scene from Animal House.
Don't like that one of our insiders liked this..I would be surprised to see Nance in an Illini uniform.
Hey everyone hears different stuff and has different reads and opinions on these things.
What if - and bear with me here because this is going to get a little crazy - we landed the top 3 in-state recruits as has been suggested by some of the insiders. Our resurrection is nothing short of remarkable.
If Nance falls through, which big do you think we’ll try to add?
Appreciate the info. Are there off-the-court and/or character reasons, as implied by the other poster, or is our backing off more for basketball reasons? He’s actually right. We’ve backed of significantly

It only took 2 minutes for a Larry Bird joke, but chapeau!, Biggie was a surprise.
Mouhamed Gueye from Washington State is still in the portal. I don’t know how good the guy is though. He was a 4* as a hs recruit. If Nance falls through, which big do you think we’ll try to add?

More basketball/motor concernsAppreciate the info. Are there off-the-court and/or character reasons, as implied by the other poster, or is our backing off more for basketball reasons?
Years, he missed previous season, but Lanter played the 79 season. He actually made THE pass to EJ. He also tried to return after the injury suffered during the loss to tOSU. He was not the same though. The stats for 1978/79 bear that out, although I am pretty sure he started more than the 1 game shown here:Don't mean to be rude, but Lanter didn't blow out his knee that year. He missed the entire previous season and was a non factor in 78. He then decided he could not play in the Big10 and left. His freshmen class in 76 with Judson, Bresnahan, and Cobb followed by EJ and Mark Smith with the Holcomb transfer was a good team. But there was no point guard. That and the rigors of Big10 was the reason for the collapse.
