Goode, Rodgers, and Epps fight off 7-9. Based on the history, Goode will get more than the frosh. Skyy is a wild card if he is under some kind of restrictions early in the season. If Skyy is fully ready, I doubt the other frosh get a lot more minutes than what RJ/Goode got in their first year.
The freshman are gonna play more because we only have 6 guys who aren’t freshman in the rotation. Last year we had 9.

(not counting Lieb)

If one focused on stats Rodgers may not have gotten the playing time and coaches’ recognition he got in Mexico. Numbers are important but there is more to it than simply stats.

All four of the freshmen will get more minutes than RJ and Goode got last year. It seems like everyone on here really don't know what we have in these young alpha dogs!!! All four will be in the playing rotation, they are to talented and relentless when they are on the court

Derek Harper makes the too bad they couldn't play as freshman list
He started. Averaged 8.3 points, 5.4 assists.

While I am at it, the 1971/72 freshmen were the last to be ineligible. Rick Schmidt was in that class. The nest class, 1972/73, featuring Otho Tucker, played.

Epps practiced in 22 the other day but looks like someone else in that number on this clip? Also Dain in 34, SH in 1, Ty 13 and Skyy 21.

Any guesses on our Big Ten/ACC Challenge opponent? I assume we will be on the road, as we were at home last year. Also, I FIGURE they’d want Indiana and us with Duke and UNC? And we were just at Duke recently. At UNC would be an intense test early!! Here have been our last five (Underwood Era):

2021-22: vs. Notre Dame
2020-21: at Duke
2019-20: vs. Miami (FL)
2018-19: at Notre Dame
2017-18: at Wake Forest

Really hope we get a “marquee” matchup.

As a guy who lives right next to Duke and UNC, I'd absolutely love either of them on the road.

My one counter is most frosh come in nowhere near Big Ten ready defensively, and that’s a non-starter for Underwood. I’m not saying Ty Rodgers is going to be Trent Frazier the first day he puts on an Illini uniform, but he appears darn better defensively than most freshmen which should give him a leg up regarding playing time. I think the reason we barely saw RJ last year is he was sub-par on defense and Goode was at least solid. Rodgers *seems* above average.

I appreciate the modern era of summer-long, slow-drop hype videos. By the time we get to the fall I am about ready to run through a brick wall to get me some Illinois basketball.
I’m about to go all bear, and hibernate until November.
