Great freshman PGs at Illinois
- Kiwane Garris 15.9 ppg
- Bruce Douglas 9.4 ppg
- Frank Williams 11.4 ppg
- Deron Williams 6.3 ppg ( he struggled a little)

Kiwane was a perfect example of a “scoring PG.”. He was more than capable as a distributor, but he could light it up himself also. So adept at getting into the lane and making things happen.

Starting 5:

Skyy
TSJ
RJ
Mayer
Dainja

Next 3 up:

Hawkins
Epps
Rodgers

Odd Men Out:

Goode
Harris
Lieb

I like the starting 5. I am pretty certain that BU will want three capable 3 point shooters on the floor at any time for the majority of the game. Those are Skyy, Epps, RJ, Mayer, Goode. Sincere TBD.

I see Goode getting rotation minutes. He doesn't get lost in the moment, steady player that will get you rebounds and 3s. Minutes will be found for him, remember he was recruited by Izzo, he is a player. Has size at the SG or wing. Not flashy, but passing, defense, shooting will get him minutes.

IF we do not have 10 Guys with 15 plus a game, it will be very frustrating. Goode, Rogers and Harris will have 10 minutes a game. We need to run teams off the floor

I would be shocked if we had 10 guys average 15+ min. That’s extremely rare in college basketball Even 9 would be surprising. If everyone s healthy, I think we might go to 9 deep w 10+ min/game, but late in the season, the rotation will shrink to 6-7.

Dainja/Hawkins not clear cut to me. Dainja- Offense, Hawk-Defense. Defense will start early on. May depend on backup center and where he stands talent wise but I’m assuming emergency guy rather than rotational player.
Also may be more competition between Skyy and Epps while still rehabbing. Talent differential not that huge among most of these players so fitting a role may be determining factor.

It is to Brad, Chester, Tim and Geoff

Thank you. I think we could see 9 guys rotate in occasionally but a 7-8 man rotation is where we will be at majority of the time. It’s impossible to get everyone minutes and keep them happy. And it’s not Brads job to play guys just to keep them happy

Picking the 8 or so that are in our rotation will be tough. Health will play a factor, as it always does. It will be tough to keep Goode and Rodgers off the floor, and Harris will likely contribute as the season goes on.

The practice scrimmage games should be fun, and damn competitive.

Here everyone, not necessarily season related, but we’re down here with our son and nephew for the youth football camp and looking for a good bar restaurant for some lunch. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Head downtown, IMO. Cooler stuff. Black Dog, Big Grove, Watson’s, Hamilton Walker’s. More dinner options than lunch, but still better food.

(It’s obviously past lunch, not sure how long you’re in Champaign!)

I would suggest that if it's close on determining a starting 5....BU will go with experience and defense as a deciding factor....as well as match ups.....play 10-11 guys meaningful minutes....how they produce in these minutes during game competition, given things in practice are pretty equal, will help solve that 8-9 man rotation..after a handful of games, it also gives the staff stats, data, etc to show players why they do or why they don't deserve more or less playing time....giving players hard core evidence (stats) to back up their decision is pretty straight forward and makes it easier....want to play more???.....get better at things we're asking you to do.

I'm very excited about Skyy Clark and just wonder what his ceiling is in a system like brad will run. 10ppg or 15ppg?
I know it's a really tough question but would love some people's opinion.
Lots of assists by driving the lane, then passing to one of our wide open 3 point shooters?

Derek Harper makes the too bad they couldn't play as freshman list

Goode, Rodgers, and Epps fight off 7-9. Based on the history, Goode will get more than the frosh. Skyy is a wild card if he is under some kind of restrictions early in the season. If Skyy is fully ready, I doubt the other frosh get a lot more minutes than what RJ/Goode got in their first year.
