Illinois Football Uniforms

I find it hard to believe that any seriously considered, much less approved, uniform rendering would have shoulder numbers floating in midair like this. No self-respecting professional graphic designer would submit that as a final product. It looks hacky and amateurish at best.

To me this screams MS Paint drag and drop desktop project made perhaps with the assistance of some kind of online “build your own jersey” configurator. The template on which it is based also seems very general and dated and not consistent with current Nike production forms.

FWIW I googled “football jersey template” and the first image that came up was a plain jersey configurator template that looked almost exactly like that one.
I really believe that Nike wouldn’t make this design even if Bielema wants it. Their design standards wouldn’t allow it. These look like something you’d order on some random webstore.

I like the Blackman era unis better. By '79 I had actually started putting academic concerns ahead of football game attendance LOL.
You were obviously a very patient young man! :ROFLMAO:

Agreed on the Blackman unis. I thought those popped, helmets, too. I recall around '08 when Nate was our QB we had some nice orange home unis under Zook w/ white pants. Yes... found it: [EDIT: Ah, of course. Terry Hawthorne sprinting the length of the field chasing down that Michigan receiver. And the subsequent goal line stand that turned the game for us. How could I forget?!]

If they could have removed the 2005-Nike template piping and side panels these uniforms would’ve been fine for the long haul.

Not really patience, just the realization that graduation depended more on library time than on Memorial Stadium time.:eek::geek::giggle:

I do like these uniforms also, but I'm truly partial to the Blackman era helmets. View attachment 18330
They were unique to us and like you said, they seemed to pop. I wonder if something could be done with the script being arched?

I don’t mind those helmets at all, but they weren’t completely unique to us…they were a play on the Dartmouth design from Blackman’s previous coaching stop.

Right you are. I'd forgotten that. No matter. Michigan swiped the winged helmet design from the Bears IIRC.
Fritz Crisler brought the winged helmet design to UMich from Princeton believing that it would help his halfbacks find receivers downfield more easily. That said, I too like the Blackman era helmet design. It would be unique to us among the power conference schools.

My wife ranks the Big Ten uniforms

Cornhusker site. Yes, this is such a totally random article to post. I don't agree with her ranking for Ohio State but she was spot on with her Illinois ranking.
I'd never noticed that the "feature" of stripes on the Huskers' jersey sleeves is exactly replicated on Wisconsin's home jerseys. Nor had I contemplated that the BT is awash in red. lol at her take on Michigan. I have always liked OSU's uniforms, both home and away.

I really dug the phase Minnesota went through in the mid-'70s with head-to-toe gold. Here's Tony Dungy rockin' it v. the Mildcats in the old Brick House (RIP), Memorial Stadium in Minneapolis (and below that it's Rick Upchurch, I believe, v. Iowa in its pre-Hayden Fry unis):

Well, here's a fun game for a Friday. Did we change our shade of orange and not tell anyone? Let's be honest, it feels like something we'd do.
The Illini instagram page posted a somewhat cryptic "hail to the orange" message the other day, and if you look at the page it's very noticeably different than the orange used elsewhere.

Something is afoot, methinks.

(There are some topics I just never get tired of spouting off on, as viewers of the conference realignment thread can attest. This isn't one of them. I can't care nearly as much about any of this as I did in 2014 or whenever it was. #TeamShield )

My guess is that we have a tendency to deviate from the official branding, and that may have happened with those tweet graphics. But idk maybe. That orange on the right feels very Illinois...
If you click on Robert's twitter link, you'll see that it was confirmed that we did change our orange color. I guess, it really doesn't matter too much to me. 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: I see I was a little slow.

I would think this must mean we have some new uniforms in the work for at least one sport with this orange coming soon.

I mean, yeah, you'd hope we'd make the change in concert with new uniforms across the entire brand. I'm not exactly holding my breath on that one, though. I'm assuming we're doing this piecemeal over a frustratingly long amount of time. Please, please, please feel free to prove me wrong.
