Surprised that there isn’t more criticism of the focus on Hansberry when he is ranked so low. Is it possible that we trust our staff more than the rankings?

When you look at coaches that are consistently good, outside of the blue bloods, they don't necessarily bring in nothing but 5 stars. Jay Wright in Villanova brought in consistent talent but rarely 5 star. Matt Painter lives off 3 star guys, Baylor is a bit more of a mix, but they won a national title with transfers and 3/4 stars. Up until very recently Gonzaga was living on 3 star guys on the occasional 4 star. I'm sure there are more and better examples, Houston maybe (gross).Surprised that there isn’t more criticism of the focus on Hansberry when he is ranked so low. Maybe it's also the fact that he dominated Peach Jam AND we trust the coaches?Surprised that there isn’t more criticism of the focus on Hansberry when he is ranked so low. Is it possible that we trust our staff more than the rankings?

My point is, successful coaches know what they want to fit their system and who can excel. If Underwood wants this guy this bad, then I have no concerns. Especially when you see him playing well in the top AAU tournaments. Just solidifies that what the saw does exist and this kid can play.

These two things are definitely not the same. We want to make championships, not be Purdue. So while I definitely agree with your point, Matt Painter is actually the argument for the other side of the perils of not landing highly ranked talent.Matt Painter lives off 3 star guys,
The rankings are going to change.
While the article itself wrote he had an Illinois offer, he did not mention Illinois in the entire interview and said he likes frigging Michigan State. Since he is a Michigan kid, it feels like a uphill battle to me.

Considering we won the last recruiting battle for a Meanstreets kid from Michigan, I'd say we have a good shot mainly due to the legend that is Tim Anderson. While the article itself wrote he had an Illinois offer, he did not mention Illinois in the entire interview and said he likes frigging Michigan State. I feel like you're selling Painter short. While he hasn't done it consistently, he's had a few NBA guys. Ivey was lottery. And his tournament success is solid if not spectacular --he's got what, a half dozen S16 and an E8? I feel like he's trended up most of his career, even though he hasn't gotten to the FF yet. 247 shows him consistently getting a couple 4 stars per class.
Program is rightfully aiming high after Underwood turned things around, but I don't think I'd point to Painter for a cautionary tale --he's been pretty successful.

You are right. I thought he was an Illinois kid since he last attended school in Chicago. However, his is from MI, basically the same area with Trey McKenney.Rodgers. He grew up in Saginaw and was a big MSU fan.
As BU likes to say....Bring It!!
Rodgers?Who was that?

I was referring to Ty Rodgers, a guy born and raised in MSU's backyardWho was that?
