Just listened to the CBS Eye on College basketball pod (national basketball podcast) preview of OSU and Michigan, which made their top 20 list (IL did not). I realize we lost a lot but think the national media is really sleeping on us.

OSU made the the cut because of their 2 transfers, 3 top 50-75ish freshman (including a frosh PG who is expected to start) and because Holtmann is a really good coach.

Michigan made the cut because they think HD will have an AA type year and they think Jett Howard will seriously outplay his ranking based on winning MVP of Iverson classic.

I like OSU’s transfers. I like ours more.

We will have a frosh PG as well but with our new style of play I think we will be less reliant on PG play than years past.

And as far as frosh playing above their rankings, we have one frosh who won the 1/1 tourney at the Iverson, one who was a key cog in the USA team that won gold, and one who was literally a top 10 player before an acl tear that happened almost 18 months ago.

And thats not giving us any credit for our returning pieces, one of which is projected as a second rounder on most mock drafts.

It doesn’t bother me that much and I understand we lost a ton, including a mountain of a man in the middle, but just interesting to me who gets noticed and who doesn’t.

I think it's lame that the Big ten doesn't prioritize scheduling more conference games on Saturdays. I get that they want the primetime slots during the week for TV deals, but Saturday hoops gets the juices flowing

Agree but I think alot of that is on networks as well. They wants games spread out through the week. Only night I don't like play is Friday nights. Just can't get use to that

I really don’t have any issue with being the underdog here. I don’t think any team in the B1G is going to underestimate us and we’ll get our due over the course of the season.

3 home Sat games for conference play and a Friday night?

Much better than last season!
True, but it looks like a couple of those are during semester break..ie no students.

Meanwhile we have to travel to Purdue, Ohio St, Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin for weekend games in front of their student sections.

Favorable schedule overall, but still underwhelmed by our weekend home games.

Only 2 conference games without the Orange Krush, but those 2 games are big ones against Wisconsin and MSU. And we don't get the benefit of traveling anywhere tough with their students gone. Not super favorable but could be worse.

And that last stretch of 5 games is tough. @IU, @OSU, @Purdue, and Michigan at home. It would be really nice to be heading into that stretch with only 2 or 3 conference losses.

This was my impression. You'd love to have marquee matchups on the weekend and we don't.

Schedule seems favorable
Don't see Purdue or Michigan until March.

It looks like a fairly favorable schedule to me. Feb doesn't look nearly as brutal as it has in certain previous seasons. Have marked Dec. 2 here in DC on the calendar. I'll enjoy a second straight season of seeing the boys play live!
I may have to make the trip from tobacco road to that game. Five hours for a Friday night game ain't bad. I wonder how easy/hard terps tix are to get.

I seriously wonder if they don't put some "big matchups" on the week on purpose because they know they'll pull good ratings no matter what. Illinois/Indiana is going to have great ratings any day of the week ... passionate and large fan bases that expect good years. Meanwhile, you might be able to turn Iowa/Wisconsin into a ratings win on a Saturday where it might deliver subpar numbers Thursday night.

As usual, TV ruins everything as far as game days and game times.

C'mon over! Last year for a late Jan Friday night game they were effortless to obtain. I'd never seen the Xfinity Center that empty (announced attendance was 12k in an 18k arena but there couldn't have been more than 5-7k there.) Turgeon quit in early December and the fan base just abandoned the team.

This season they've got good buzz around the coach they hired away from Seton Hall (Kevin Willard). I bet he'll have them competitive quickly The Terp fans are brutally fickle, however, so who knows how many will show up for an early December BT opener with a new coach?

The arena is your basic sterile corporate box but when it's packed (and the Terps are playing well against a top opponent) it's an electric atmosphere. The university was idiotic, however, to abandon Cole Fieldhouse 20 yrs ago. That place was old school awesome (and is now their brand new indoor football practice facility.)
