Beware the Ides of "" Daddy Brad ""....................
Daddy Brad needs to be a Krush chant when Howard steps on the floor at Assembly Hall.

PG does not have to always handle the ball or even distribute it. See Jordan's Bulls teams back in 90's. Color me not too worried. I can't believe we won't have at least two to three guys who can handle the ball well enough.
So who's Jordan in this analogy?

Anwyay, I too have been concerned about the PG position in case we don't get the development we need from the freshmen. I'm not taking an early practice report for a freshman as any indicator though. Turnovers early are often a result of teammates getting on the same page. This goes away with more reps.

Lots of really positive stuff in there to get us excited as fans. My concern is still at pg. Goodman mentioned in the interview that Epps turned the ball over multiple times in practice. Maybe our defense is awesome this year and nobody will have an easy time bringing it up the floor. Not really sure but having 2 point guards that are true freshman with no real backup is a bit concerning. I wish they would could have found a veteran in the portal.
Not really worried about getting the ball up the floor. Believe that will be done by passing rather than dribbling in any case if they want to play fast. The question is more about starting the offense and leadership. Suspect that is why Ty is being mentioned. Believe one of the major differences in this team is that all of the starters will be capable of taking it to the basket and finishing. The players mentioned for their defense include Hawk, TJ, Mayer, and Ty. Three have been assumed starters by most on this board and all four by some. Not sure how the frosh, Dain, RJ, and Luke are rated defensively but will determine minutes based on BU’s past playing decisions. BU mentioned that he was happy with the chemistry and assumed that would include the leadership but have no idea who has filled that role.

Me either. Freshman PGs will make mistakes, that was true of Frankie, Dee, and Deron. I look at that position and look at handles and decision-making, and I think Skyy will do fine --from what I've seen he has pretty tight handles, and sees the floor well. If Epps is struggling now, hopefully he improves because I expect they'll be minutes there for him if he can.

It’s been brought up, but over the past decade plus, there’s rarely been more than a couple non guards that have handles/vision to help facilitate offense and take some of the dribbling responsibilities off the PG. I think even if we’re forced to play Epps as a lead guard, being able to play him with a combination of Shannon, RJ, Hawkins, Ty, and Mayer will help alleviate his short comings.

Depth could be a problem, for sure. I'm assuming Skyy is full strength and nothing happened ;)

Scotty was often the guy who brought the ball up and distributed it. It doesn't have to be your PG every time. I am not trying to suggest Ty being that guy to us. I am just saying using the guys who turnover less to handle the ball more often.

I prefer to diversify with the Vanguard (guard swidt...) 2023 Illini Index Fund. Equal shares of CoHawk, RJ, MM, Skyy, and TSJ.
How can I do this?
Need to transfer my 401k ASAP. Way more bullish on those guys than the Fidelity 500 or Dodge and Cox...

Not bad, but RJ is too low. I hope Coleman is a Top 10 Breakout guy, but I have my doubts.
RE Coleman, I have my doubts too, I don’t think he’ll have the same kind of jump in offensive numbers that the big 3 BIG breakout guys had last year. But if he can average 9, 7 and 2 with a 1.5 spg and bpg, it won’t be as sexy a jump as those other 3 had, but would be huge for Illini. That would mean good consistency as well as a few bigger games thrown in. I think that is possible.

Doesn’t belong here but OUCH
St John already played an exhibition against some U22 team and in 22 minutes Curbelo was 0 for 9 (0 for 5 from 3) with 1 point, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.
