More missed tackling than getting gashed because of schemeRun defense could have been better, but wonder if it was a little bit of "save some for next week."
Extra 2 days before traveling to Madison will be good.
Yup. I still expect some though. Just the way the defense is.Question: Did we clean up the "yapping penalties"?
Yes. 2 flags, but they wiped out big gainers. Hold and a marginal offensive face mask.Question: Did we clean up the "yapping penalties"?
It feels like we've been suffering 50% completion rates (or lower) since Nate was taking snaps, and I've come to blame the coordinators. But Tommy makes the play calling look better than it is, because he executes the offense so well. He's throwing catchable balls and the receivers are doing their parts. Nothing revolutionary, but it sure feels new and refreshing. We haven’t had a qb this good in a while. Devito is a great qb for this rebuilding team. He’s consistent and is willing to throw the ball. His completion percentage has been a pleasant surprise so far this season.
Yep. This is the perfect sort of game to tick off another one of those obscure “never done that before” stat so we don’t show up on some clickbait shame list sometime in the future.Bielema said in his press conference that it was the first time in program history where there were two, 100-yard receivers and a 100-yard rusher in the same game.
Dinardo made the point on BTN that the holding was an awful call also.Yes. 2 flags, but they wiped out big gainers. Hold and a marginal offensive face mask.
His receivers were better today as well. Good yards after catch, and not plagued by drops. We haven’t had a qb this good in a while. Devito is a great qb for this rebuilding team. Agreed. Hands looked better tonight, but Devito was throwing some great balls. Devito threw a lot of balls behind his receivers a game ago. Devito really looked sharp tonight. One terrible decision and one bad throw that should have been an INT, but one mistake all night... not bad at all. Huge improvement on offense. His receivers were better today as well. The refs called back a touchdown. That’s how Indiana “beat” us.Finally, after a decade or more of chasing the tail of the B1G, BB has assembled some talent and is coaching them on how to win. The program is a long way from contending for the playoffs, but they to have the ability to contend for the West Div. title. Certainly not a favorite, but could be a contender. Love DeVito, Brown, Williams and Randolph as we all do....but they need to be the standard at all positions....and that is not a profound statement as any Illini fan knows the score. But it is refreshing to see the team win, against any level of competition, and they should be undefeated if they had simply kept their heads from blowing up against the Hoosiers. Blunders cause losses, and that loss was blundered away big time. But there the staff seems to have pointed that out and players seem to have taken notice. The talent is there to win against any West Div. team, but the focus and discipline need to exceed the talent of each player for the team to be big winners....and than can be. But will they be? It is pretty much their decision.
Meanwhile, the Illini finally have a football coach and staff who know how to win. It may take as much as 5 or more years of steadily raising the talent level before they can surprise OSU, but Michigan, Penn State, and MSU should not feel comfortable coming to Champaign in the near future. Kudos to the players....but remember you are not the first guy to make a sack, TD, catch a long pass, or run for 40 yds....so act like its no big deal and do it again.
Keep looking up and Go Illini!!
Since '58. You sir have my deepest respect.Just want to say a huge, "Thank You" to the people who respond to my presumably stupid questions. I don't have the ability to watch the games. So I only read about them after the fact. Been an Illini fan since 1958 and this is killing me. So thanks again. Really, really!
