Finally, after a decade or more of chasing the tail of the B1G, BB has assembled some talent and is coaching them on how to win. The program is a long way from contending for the playoffs, but they to have the ability to contend for the West Div. title. Certainly not a favorite, but could be a contender. Love DeVito, Brown, Williams and Randolph as we all do....but they need to be the standard at all positions....and that is not a profound statement as any Illini fan knows the score. But it is refreshing to see the team win, against any level of competition, and they should be undefeated if they had simply kept their heads from blowing up against the Hoosiers. Blunders cause losses, and that loss was blundered away big time. But there the staff seems to have pointed that out and players seem to have taken notice. The talent is there to win against any West Div. team, but the focus and discipline need to exceed the talent of each player for the team to be big winners....and than can be. But will they be? It is pretty much their decision.

Meanwhile, the Illini finally have a football coach and staff who know how to win. It may take as much as 5 or more years of steadily raising the talent level before they can surprise OSU, but Michigan, Penn State, and MSU should not feel comfortable coming to Champaign in the near future. Kudos to the players....but remember you are not the first guy to make a sack, TD, catch a long pass, or run for 40 yds....so act like its no big deal and do it again.

Keep looking up and Go Illini!!

Kool aid tastes great and all, but we have a LOT of tuff games ahead of us. I don't think many of us predicted us starting this strong after losing all those veteran players last year. We've got a lot of young, talented players putting in time and I really think that reflects well on our staff. This staff is really good. We might drop some games this season, and we might fall short; we'll have to wait and see. But I think it's safe to say that this team looks well coached and much improved from game 1 to game 4. Kids are obviously working their tails off and have bought in. Happy to be an Illini fan. Now Josh has to keep this staff on board for a couple more years to build on some success. So win or lose, and I hope we keep winning, this team is infinitely easier on the eyes that a few short years ago. I mean how great was it to watch their D key on our RB and we just shift to a quick passing attack? We've got work to do, but our team should be proud.

We haven’t had a qb this good in a while. Devito is a great qb for this rebuilding team. He’s consistent and is willing to throw the ball. His completion percentage has been a pleasant surprise so far this season.
It feels like we've been suffering 50% completion rates (or lower) since Nate was taking snaps, and I've come to blame the coordinators. But Tommy makes the play calling look better than it is, because he executes the offense so well. He's throwing catchable balls and the receivers are doing their parts. Nothing revolutionary, but it sure feels new and refreshing.

His receivers were better today as well. Good yards after catch, and not plagued by drops.
Agreed. Hands looked better tonight, but Devito was throwing some great balls. Devito threw a lot of balls behind his receivers a game ago. Devito really looked sharp tonight. One terrible decision and one bad throw that should have been an INT, but one mistake all night... not bad at all. Huge improvement on offense.

After getting a very negative review on DeVito from a Syracuse fan on this board around a month ago or more, I wonder how many of us actually expected Tommy to play at the level he has to this point, albeit against low level competition? I will admit to being pleasantly surprised. But even though he was not an elite rated QB in HS (#7 QB in NJ and #327 overall nationally...good but not elite), he is certainly performing as well as anyone could expect on the field of competition. Kudos to him as that takes massive hard work to get there, as well as gaining the confidence of his teammates quickly.

Now....let's see what happens as the level of competition takes a step up. The hand-offs, throws, and running will not change, but they may come in tighter circles with more company.

Paducah, Ky
DeVito has progressed a lot from the first game and the receivers are finally catching almost anything that they get their hands on ,,,,,,Pat Bryant has been a pleasant surprise and shows the skills to compliment IW.............
The defense has played at a high level that has translated into becoming a dominant force and the pass rush has elevated their play so much......

Good player's being coached by good coaches is a recipe for success.....................The loss to the punchface loosier's is burning a hole in my craw and will for a long time........

BB has brought a change of pace from the lazy Lovie days to a much more aggressive pace of play.....last year was a season full of punchface loosier losses and BB and staff have learned form those losses...........

The main area I am concerned about is the kicking game and it's a part of the team that has been so secure for many prior seasons and now is so unsecure as far as any confidence that it will improve .....the future is bright in the kicking area but we need improvement now.....

The refs called back a touchdown. That’s how Indiana “beat” us.
