I have known Dravyn since he was at McCutcheon ... I also know a lot of people tied in with him, especially on the AAU side ... Watched him through EYBL last 2 years ... And was down at Peach Jam watching him this summer ...

Personally, I think his AAU team hurt him more than helped him ... Fears is a ball hog who can't shoot ... Kaleb Glenn was far and away the best player on the team. He took his fair share of shots as well so that left Dravyn in the 3rd spot and once Fears got done spending 20 seconds attempting to break down his defender and picked up his dribble the offense was broken. The shots Dravyn got weren't that great ... When they were running the offense through Dravyn and Kaleb in the first few events, it looked a lot better IMO ...

All that being said ... If the kid buys in then he will be a good player ... But he has to be okay with playing a role and ignore everyone telling him he's going to be a one and done ... Montverde will help him with that this year ...

There are also some concerns surrounding the family and Dad being a mini Lavar Ball ... Those rumors were coming from Purdue because Purdue didn't want to give hardly any NIL ... Dad wasn't happy and said what's the deal with this, this ain't what we talked about ? ... Purdue people twisted the story to make them look better ...

Dad & TA have known each other for quite a while ... They trust TA ... Dravyn trusts TA ... Which is a major factor
great insight as always. Thanks for sharing. Good info on DGL. I think the more telling information is regarding Fears but what do I know

Illini nations greatest insider, and the worlds top journalist, says he's a future top 100.
My favorite part of this is the INCREDIBLE quote of, "I would classify the class of 2023 and 2024 as the micro view of Illinois basketball. They are the classes that will help Illinois in the immediate future. I would classify the class of 2025 as the macro. These recruits will help the Illini down the road."

Wow Rees... you mean that recruits coming in the next two years will help sooner than the recruits coming at a later point in time? You are a genius. A god amongst men. A true connoisseur of the recruiting world.

We like going last but DGL has us first. Memphis is next. Lot of schools after him - UNC, Virginia, Gonzaga, Texas....

We are already loaded at guard with Skyy, Jayden, Sencire, Luke. However you never know with NBA early, transfer portal etc.

Trust in Tim A.

Luther - never gets enough credit for his contributions to NCAA finals team

Luther Head- the first ever second team All-American and first team All-B1G player to not get enough credit. But I digress..

That's not deep at guard at all. Good chance Skyy is gone after a year. Luke isn't a guard. That could leave just Jayden and Sencire.

You should have at least 5 guards on the roster - BU has said exactly that.

Keep recruiting, always try to add more talent.

It's amazing how quickly pulling up from 3 off the dribble has gone from "thing you should not do in basketball" to "basic NBA skill for anyone under 6'10"".

Steph Curry is a hell of a drug.
I'm actually curious why it took so long. I've played with a ton of guys that you couldn't give any room to once they were within 27 ft of the hoop. Not that they had any other talents that were nba-worthy. Seemed like a game changer to me. It's just a lot more guys with NBA game can do it now.

There are of course levels to that. There are many dumb things we can do that don't put other people directly in danger.

All of us did stupid things when we were younger. Luther was lucky that there was no violence involved and he was given second chance.

He made the most of it.

Dee Brown was face of the 2005 team (SI cover) and Deron Williams had an all star albeit shortened by injury NBA career. They are still well known

Not many people talk about Luther Head today (2022). I tried to google him and could not find what he is up to.

Serious question: why the shade for Woodcock?

Non-serious guess: I did a little digging and discovered that this famous incident unfolded differently than people remember. If you squint, you can see the words "by Rees Woodcock, special to the Tribune" in the byline.

lol I had to do a double take on that guy's last name. God bless that young man and I wish him all the success in his career as a journalist.

He's got a long way to go before he's in the same league as Loren Tate though.
