I have known Dravyn since he was at McCutcheon ... I also know a lot of people tied in with him, especially on the AAU side ... Watched him through EYBL last 2 years ... And was down at Peach Jam watching him this summer ...

Personally, I think his AAU team hurt him more than helped him ... Fears is a ball hog who can't shoot ... Kaleb Glenn was far and away the best player on the team. He took his fair share of shots as well so that left Dravyn in the 3rd spot and once Fears got done spending 20 seconds attempting to break down his defender and picked up his dribble the offense was broken. The shots Dravyn got weren't that great ... When they were running the offense through Dravyn and Kaleb in the first few events, it looked a lot better IMO ...

All that being said ... If the kid buys in then he will be a good player ... But he has to be okay with playing a role and ignore everyone telling him he's going to be a one and done ... Montverde will help him with that this year ...

There are also some concerns surrounding the family and Dad being a mini Lavar Ball ... Those rumors were coming from Purdue because Purdue didn't want to give hardly any NIL ... Dad wasn't happy and said what's the deal with this, this ain't what we talked about ? ... Purdue people twisted the story to make them look better ...

Dad & TA have known each other for quite a while ... They trust TA ... Dravyn trusts TA ... Which is a major factor
My impression is DGL is the best PG we might be able to get in 23. If we don't get him, we might need to wait until 24 or wait for the portal, which increases the risk a little bit. So I am OK fi we get him.

Context, what a concept. Thanks for that, Indy.

If Gibbs-Lawhorn chooses us, he's signing up for a more difficult row to hoe than he could find elsewhere. That's admirable. Hopefully, Tim & Brad & NIL put us over the top.

He knew when he went to Montverde he had a tough road to hoe. Skyy was there ahead of him. He ended up being 7th man but on a loaded team that won a Geico. He should be a starter this year and one of the top players. His Dad did say they intend to take all their OV's and DGL stated he would like to announce his decision during the season at halftime of one of their games. Some how Zaga has snuck in on this one.
INDY, thanks as always.!!!

He's hoeing roads now?

Yeah, it's good that there's some precedent (Monteverde). Whatever happens, it's all good. I love where our recruiting is at. And it's only getting better.

I am not going to overlook the skills of Mr. Epps at all.
I think he and Mr. Harris will be major contributors this year and every year they are Illini......
We have a squad full of talented young men and I am as excited as ever about the upcoming season.
GO ILLINI !!!!!

The difference in refereeing in the tournament makes a big difference. Bumps that wouldn't get a second glance in a BiG game get players into early foul trouble in the tourney. The rough reputation of the BiG doesn't help. People see (and call) what they expect to see. It is a cost for being the outlier.
Unless your name is Kofi and you play for Illinois. The no calls on Kofi were a travesty, but to be fair, that happened all year long.

What does a possible signing of DGL mean for Jayden Epps?
We shall all learn from Adam Miller. Nothing from the outside really means anything.

The coach's job is to load the team with talent and try to keep all the guys he thinks can get us where we want to be. There's no predicting the good or bad of any recruiting/personnel decision. And in fact, factors that seem inconsequential are often more important than what we are looking at.

But if not, then he wasn’t a top priority and we cooled on him because of ………..

Unlike the olden days (2 or 3 years ago), the worry about DGL taking time from others is no longer valid. The coaching staff has laid out a plan for the young man to make it to the NBA. Just as they have for all the other players on the team, the cream will rise and accept the challenge. Work your butt off, and this coaching staff will get you to the league.

This is what it feels like to be a big-time program.

Keep in mind that these are big boy problems! the kind of problems we haven't had for a long time... A full roster with 8-10 deep talent to
run onto the court only happens at elite programs and we are there.

Now, or when I was 17? They would be very different answers.
That was my first thought as well. Then I remembered there wouldn’t be much difference. As much as I/ we played I wasn’t very good at BB. I was a pretty good baseball and football player, but not BB. So, I’m out!

It's a mindset change. I feel like the last time the Illini were consistently loaded, the risk of transfers was low and players were willing to develop and step up as sophs or juniors. That's not the world we live in today. If a player thinks they should have gotten more PT, it often starts to show in their attitude, and then they believe they're better off with a fresh start elsewhere.

Illini nations greatest insider, and the worlds top journalist, says he's a future top 100.
The fact that Rees is not already talking about this 2025 recruit as a future lottery pick is an amazing amount of restraint for him.
