Just checked the ticket site, and looks like we may need a separate tickets thread this week lol.

How good are they? Look who they’ve beaten - Colorado 0-5, New Mexico State 1-5, Western Illinois 0-5, MSU 2-4. They may be as good as advertised but do we really know yet? Illinois will be by far the best defense they’ve faced.
That’s kinda what people said about us right? and still could in a way…

We beat Wyoming, bad Virginia, fcs chat, bad Wisconsin, and an Iowa team with the one of the worst offenses in ncaa history.

I think with a healthy TDV we’re legit, but it’s a fair point to apply to use as well.

Well Wisky doesn’t look so bad now and Iowa’s D is legit. So I think there’s more to judge us on. I’ll say Minnesota could be every bit as good as advertised OR more mediocre than advertised.

Mix in the Barge package if Art is starting. Heavy run script, some boot action here and there to keep the defense honest. Control the clock, elite special teams play, win the field position battle and let our defense do their thing. McCray back would be huge.

I think IW sits out this week with Devito. Three weeks rest does our injuries good. Lunney takes a step back and we play a simplified offense. I don't think Art learns to read thru his progressions in under a week. Chase runs for 150 yards again, the defense hold the Gophers to one TD, and we win 20-16. It's a lock. LOL

The one thing I'm hopeful about is that Art will get all the 1st team reps in practice this week (I think Bret said Tommy would typically get 80% of reps in practice), so he should look a bit better this week than he did on Saturday night.

With that said, Minnesota's D is very very good and their offense is significantly better than Iowa's, especially if they have Ibrahim back.

Sadly, I think the Gophers steal this one 16-7.
(if TVD plays, we eek it out 17-16)

This isn't a horrible take at all. I don't need elite special teams play... I'd take competent, non-heart attacking inducing special teams play.

Now the Minny Meanies will have to beat a RANKED TEAM at home!

#24 with the best running back in the country!

Just a reminder....we beat #7 Penn St. last year...in spite of Art (8/19 38yds). We also beat #20 Minny .... @Minny......in spite of Brandon Peters (7/9 80 yds).

No way we are out of this game if TDV can't go. No way.
i hope your right. i just see too many bad decisions. i know, i was a few of those way from not getting a degree 40 years ago.....

Not out of it by any means, but we also aren't going to catch anybody napping with a number next to our name.

Their SOS is weak, but people like their analytics. If Vegas views them as a road favorite, I'm generally not inclined to say Vegas is "wrong", although of course I hope that Illinois pulls it out regardless. What happens on Saturday will be telling, should be another low scoring affair but also features two of the best RBs in the Big Ten.

100%. Minny will be here for revenge. We are going to find out just how good our D is...again....and we might have to win In Spite Of our QB...again.

But something tells me if TDV can wrap it up and not risk further damage....a "pocket only"...limited TDV is still the best option. Even if he can only go for one half.

Who is Art's backup?
if DeVito can't go, the backup is probably Ryan Johnson, a preferred walk-on that transferred from Northern Michigan (Division II) last season

"Third String: Ryan Johnson

I believe Ryan Johnson will take over the third-string duties for the 2022 campaign. He is a redshirt senior this year, so having that experience is invaluable. I don’t think Illinois will need their third-string quarterback much this season, but it is nice to have him in the holster ready to go."

I get the drop off from Devito to Art is big, but he’s played winning football here for us. Idk if I attribute those wins to him, but there is something to be said about that. I take Tommy everyday and twice on Saturday over Art but given our backup qb position over the past decade this is night and day difference.

Maybe it’s the Illinois fan in me, but things sure feel like they could be worse if we’re without tommy on Saturday.
