The Pirate would be the one guy that I would call if I were the Nebraska AD.
not sure I see a fit with his personality / style and that very conservative fan base.

but He’s a natural with any school that has the “red headed stepchild” syndrome

Leach is a guy that wears out his welcome after a few years wherever he goes. But he can build/rebuild a program.

Unbelievable that in his 3rd year at Miss St Leach already has them as a SEC contender outside of Bama/ Tennessee

Easily one of the most underrated coaches in college football

19 bowl appearances in 21 seasons, won at 2 difficult programs in Texas tech and Wash St and now turning Miss St around
Back when Tim Beckman was hired I thought Leach would have been a great coach for the Illini, but he had baggage related to his dismissal from Texas Tech, whether fair or not. I think that was a missed opportunity for our football program, but I understand (but don’t agree with) the administration’s apparent concerns.

I desperately wanted him at the time.

The Big Ten would have been a weird fit, even weirder than the SEC, but that's an alternate universe I'd still be interested to see.

I read the article and watched the video. I don't think he hurt his chances at all. To me, it seems like sour grapes by Alabama State's coach. I think Deion is totally justified in being upset that another coach said he "wasn't SWAC." That is one incredibly loaded statement.

Of course, Deion is going to be fiery. Of course, there's going to be showmanship. This is who he is and what he brings to the table. What he also brings to the table is excellent recruiting and winning.
Might be the right fit at Arizona state...some program desperate for the headlines...etc. Couldnt see Deion at say Nebraska more conservative base, etc. He's going to fly off the handle at some point, so better be a safe place that can run interference for him.

That big EGO...is going to pop up at some point....and cause a lot of scrambling. I don't think Saban would be a good reference......Great Player, Good Coach...but I get the idea something could blow up...and get ugly.

I hope the Iowa coaching change comes after Saturday. I hope their defense just falls apart and we thrash them like they did us before. 70-0 .. so their AD tells their coach either you fire your son as OC or we fire you both with KF refusing and both get :poop: canned out of their on Sunday. lol
Doesn’t seem like KF going anywhere for a long time. 42 million buyout.

Saw one idea that’s possible.. BF co-oc and bring someone else in to handle playcalling. He wouldn’t demote BF to position coach due to $$

I think the ultimate “what if?” from that cycle is Dave Doeren. Yes he was just one year in at NIU, but clearly year working under Bielema at Wisconsin showed he had a good pedigree. I have to imagine if we had hired him we would have never hit the rock bottom 2-win season floor and would have gone to at least 4 or 5 bowl games since then.

The Hayden Fry/Barry Alvarez coaching tree is pretty impressive, and would be the first place i'd look for a new coach

I swore up and down that he wouldn’t work in the sec because the defenses were too good there. Too many future nfl players.

Man was I wrong.

On top that, leech has the benefit of being hilarious.

Yeah. He may or may not have been successful in rebuilding the dumpster fire he would have inherited at Illinois (I think he would have), but at the least he would have been entertaining and way more fun for the media. The Anti-Lovie if you will.

I think his politics & manner would have turned off the top 1/2 of the state. But then again, anything would have been better than Beckman/Cubit/Smith.

He's another one like Bill O'Brien where I'm really not sure what to make of him despite a long and prominent track record.
If I'm Oklahoma I give him a long, hard look based on his success at Baylor.

If I'm Rhule I avoid Nebraska like the plague and either count my millions or take a booth role until the Spring.
