Chase is great and i love him to pieces but he seems more like a 3rd rounder to me. Running backs (especially 200 pound running backs) are not the most valued player in the NFL. But I’m just Joe average fan, I haven’t even looked at draft projections yet.
I've heard general comments that he would be a day 2 (2nd or 3rd round pick). Kiper had him as the 9th best RB which probably has him late 3rd or 4th round.

Blitz pickups and catches are gonna make Chase more money than carries at this point. Everybody knows what he can do in terms of finding and smashing through a seam, it's about how well-rounded he can be.

Some love from Dennis Dodd with a mention of both Chase Brown and having the Illini at 15th in his power rankings:

15. ILLINOIS
Tommy DeVito (quarterback) has a better Q rating than Danny DeVito (actor, Jersey Mike's endorser). Brown carried in a career-high 41 times to get those 180 yards. Illini are bowl eligible for the first time since 2019 and are tied for the Big Ten West lead. How in the heck was Minnesota favored?

I noticed he did not mention that he picked Illinois next to last in the West. Not that I am bitter or anything. Also, one of his "Bold" predictions was that, "At some point during the season, the Big Ten will announce further expansion". Well, the season isn't over yet but this seems unlikely. Again, not that I am bitter.

Still lots of games left for Chase to impress the scouts....................Chase has some quick twitch moves that has paralyzed some secondary defenders and then he has that burst of speed that leaves them in the dust .......His forte is NOT rushes up the middle in the red zone.....He has busted the line of scrimmage numerous times, but in the red zone the defenders stack the line of scrimmage with little room for maneuvering...But he has improved his receiving threat to his resume that was always there and TDV and the OC have used it for some pretty awesome passes and TD's....

All I know about the NFL and RB's is there has been a trend in the last 10 + years of waiting till the second round or later to make a RB selection......
there are some teams right now that are in a dilemma regarding RB's as the injuries have mounted for backs...........

My opinion is whoever drafts Chase Brown is getting a steal of a pick.........Chase passes the eye test for me , but one eye is Orange and the other is Blue....
Might cloud my decision making process....That's ok , I would rather error on the Illini side of the equation 100 % of the time......I really really do......

True, Chase isn’t the kind of runner to push a pile into the endzone in the redzone. I’m hoping having that bigger running back (whose name escapes me) available in two weeks (?) will make a difference for us in the red zone.

Rod Smith did way more with Brandon Peters - who was an apples-and-oranges fit in his offense - than Petersen did.

Petersen's resume speaks for itself and Bielema correcting that mistake at the first opportunity will be one of the cornerstone hinge point moments of his success here when we look back.
Couldn't agree more. I did like Rod Smith. Always felt like it was a raw deal he had to deal with Lovie's defenses giving up 60+ regularly

Yep.

None of that "we'll give him one more year to prove himself" stuff.

From what I've seen so far he seems to be pretty reliable in pass coverage picking up blitzes and more than willing to get physical as a blocker. He's also shown pretty good hands as a receiver making some not easy catches. I really think he can check a lot of boxes for teams as a guy who doesn't make mistakes and gets the job done in a lot of ways.

Did we ever find out the nature Josh McCray's leg injury?

Maybe i’ve been drinking too much of the orange kool aid, but I don’t know why everyone assumes a loss to UM and OSU. We can run the ball, control the clock, wear out the other team’s defense and our defense of course will hold up well against anyone IMO. As long as we minimize turnovers and penalties, I feel we can take down both UM and OSU. You may now laugh at me, but I really don’t think the oddsmakers and experts on tv have totally caught on to us yet.

But first things first. Nebraska.

scUM is definitely beatable...but it will take two nearly perfect halves from us. IE: The Minny game with TD's instead of FG's in the Red Zone.

Corum is going to get his just like Ibrahim, but contain him and limit the passing....control the clock again on O.

It's not a hot take anymore.

I think we have about a 25-30% chance against scUM. Maybe 15% against tOSU.

Bret's pitch to Tommy must have been one heck of a sale. He committed to an offense at the time that averaged 150 yards per game with a 51% completion rate.

The trouble with UM and OSU would be whether we can avoid negative plays on offense. We're not explosive enough to make up for those and we'd be facing a serious man-for-man talent deficit with our OL versus those front sevens.

If we're just punting all the time, or worse, then all of a sudden we're putting our defense in a position of weakness. The yin-and-yang of our complementary football falls apart.

We would only have a 15% chance against OSU maybe 10% of the time, just like Nordberg.

I had my left knee' meniscus fixed 9 years ago. They cleaned it up arthroscopically and its fine now - but it was a three-four week recovery for someone who didnt have to put it under stress afterwards. I can see why his recovery could be 6-8 weeks or more.

Lets hope we see him playing soon
I believe soon after he was hurt, they were saying likely scenario (or was it best case) was a return after bye week. That’s why I was surprised to see all the questions about his status here the last 2-3 weeks. As you say, hopefully we see him against Neb.

If the tear was removed, yes it would be quick, but if it were repaired and stitched back together it would be a lot longer. Given his timeline it must have been a removal, so I hope he can make it back soon.
Source: had mine repaired, 6 month recovery, even longer for return to sports.
