agree. he's a hard dude to really figure out. I gotta think his options real high up the ladder are pretty limited.
To be clear, not saying Deion is a liar. I think he's very smart and this whole "I have an offer from Colorado" bit may be a way to push someone else, say USF, to hurry up and make a better offer. Who knows? He may very well have an offer from Colorado but he seems smarter than to jump into that mess.

my comment is related to all the “stuff” around everything he says

he has a huge black mark next to his name from his days with the “prep academy” . that scares some schools away . he is smart to play one school off the other - if it doesn’t work out , he waits another year and perhaps a better opening is available then . but he’s not going to get a 7 million dollar , 7 year offer from an SEC school based on 3 years success at JSU .

Mickey Joseph, who served as interim head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers for nine games this season, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of strangulation and third degree domestic assault, the Lincoln Police Department said.

When I linked to it and read it, I thought that one was bad, then the ESPN story below that was Florida QB Jalen Kitna (John Kitna's son) being arrested for distribution of child porn. Yikes.

Has a coordinator that’s never been a HC ever turned down their first opportunity to be a head coach? Especially at a P5 school?

I feel like he’d be better suited at a G5 school where he can put together a staff of up and comers like him (and a few experienced retreads) and work out the kinks of his HC style. Plus it won’t be as hard to win some games while said kinks are worked out.

Convincing good coaches to join him at a program that is in the gutter and run by a less than stellar athletic department and part of a dying conference might be tough to do. You have to be someone like BB who has tons of clout for that.

But maybe he’ll take to head coaching like a fish to water and be amazing!

If RW leaves for a HC spot, what is the likelihood anyone on our staff goes with?

I’ve really been hoping for 1 more year, but if he has the opportunity he wants, best of luck to him. Tough time of year to lose a valuable coach with signing day in a couple weeks. I’m sure Bret knows exactly how he will proceed if Walters goes.

You strike while the iron is hot. With limited amount of P5 jobs and likely a pretty nice salary bump — and throw in it being his alma mater, it is pretty much a no brainer. If he can’t turn Colorado around, he’ll have no problem getting AC job again and in a few years go the G5 route. He’s young enough to still have time to rebuild career. And if he gets say a 6+ year contract, he’ll be able to assemble a staff — especially if he pushes for good sized assistant salary pool.

Will suck if he heads to Boulder, but can’t blame him in the least.
