-Hats off to the student section for knowing CoHawk needed a rebound for the triple-double. Was cool seeing them go nuts.
-Love the free nuggets idea on consecutive missed free throws. Cool way to get the crowd amped.
-There was a player on the bench next to Goode, at least in the 2nd half. Anybody know who that was?
I also noticed how the fans knew it was a triple double immediately. I didn't know. That was great.

I don't remember the announcing crew saying anything about CoHawk's stat line until he'd achieved the 3D.

I told my dad, who was at the game, that he was on pace for the triple dub at halftime... He really killed it on boards and assists in the first half then hit em up with the baby hook in the second. It'll be textbook film on killing a 2-3/4-1 zone by flashing to the spot and picking it apart.

That's because the announcing crew didn't seem to have any interest in the actual game being played.
Listening to Fraschilla talk is like seeing Pepe dePew fall in love with himself.
No one else is interested and doesn't want to be involved but Fran is in heaven.

Things that may have been said throughout this thread, but don’t recall seeing and I’m also repeating:

I love the poise of our freshmen. It says a lot that Underwood had all 4 playing at the same time. I don’t feel that stress I’ve felt in the past with most freshmen when they play extensive minutes. Epps is going to be a special player. Clark is surprisingly very good defensively. He uses his size, moves well, and does a nice job taking the right angles. Not having all of them return next year would be disapointing.

I’m impressed with the chemistry of this team with so many new players, especially Shannon and Hawkins.

We were a little too unselfish at times during this game.

Hawkins is the reason you hope players stay at one school. Watching his maturity has been fun. I would have liked to see him take more shots from the free throw line and in, but ultimately he did a terrific job being that point forward at the top of the key.

When the lightbulb went on In the second half against the zone, it was a thing of beauty.

It’s tough to beat a team that can switch at every position without having a major disadvantage outside of Danja. We will only get better! Kudos to the staff for putting this team together and preparing them.

Little different defensively this year getting away from the pack line and switching everything.
Feels more NBA like. Switch. Help only when necessary. Maybe a little more on ball pressure than the league but for the most part we guard 1 on 1 pretty darn well.

Me, because of who I am, would love to see us throw out a 1-3-1 at some point like a JB Michigan team just to see what it looks like. If we were to use our buffer press and have teams not set up their offense until 18 seconds on the clock, then flip to a 1-3-1 when they set up, we’re talking about killing shot clock time like crazy. Especially late game if you wanna squeeze time with a lead.

Have we ever played a zone under BU? I don't remember us playing one even for a possession. I do agree with you - with the way college basketball is today with so much turnover every year with transfers, freshman playing key roles - switching defenses down the stretch to give the other team something to react to seems like a really good strategy. It would be very hard for a freshman PG for example to react to a new defense being thrown at them at the end of the game.

However, BU is a better coach than both of us and doesn't play a zone, so I don't think we'll ever see one. When to pick up full court and pressure seems to be the biggest change he's making this year in-game. There are lots of nuances of course in how they are defending ball screens and when to double the post etc, that he will change mid-game - but it's the same man-to-man principles every possession, every game. I'm sure there is a philosophy if you want to be great at something you have to do it every possession and not mess around with getting them to play a good zone defense too

Yep. Now my only complaint for Hawkins is please take more shots. I think that's a compliment.

As far as switching everything goes, it's a beauty but some teams can still take advantages by intentionally switching a big wing to our smaller guys such as Epps and Harris. But I believe that's something you can make adjustment to in game.

Syracuse is going to win some games in Big East. Right now their point guard play is terrible. However they showed some really nice size and shot blocking.

Edwards 6'11" had 17 rebounds and 3 blocks 2 steals. Nice Euro find.
Since Syracuse is in ACC, I don't see it wining games in Big East.

By the way Syracuse hung tight with St. John, which I believe is a good team, they will win a few games in ACC but probably not too many.

He’s trying to make Sox fans miss TLR.

Is there really video of him wetting himself???
There is not a video that I can find, but something definitely happened a few years ago. My family that watch everything ACC and previously Big East like I watch Big Ten, use it as a family/friend social media joke reference. He may have peed himself because so many people defended him due to it being due to a medical issue (prostrate cancer treatment). But nobody went with the obvious "he spilled something". So he probably did. And now my Boeheim hating family using it as a punchline. My S-I-L, the Syracuse fan, is a prime target of the family. But, they are all smart enough to accept it just as a good source for family sport team razzing. Some of our text strings during The NCAA tournament are priceless. 4 ACC fans (but that leads to 3 on 1 sometimes), 2 Big Ten, and 1 SEC.

Man, I have thought this for years. I wonder if coaches don't feel they can afford even a small amount of time to it? I see 2 benefits, the one you state about disruption defensively and shorten a shot clock, plus offensively they get a little practice against teams that play a lot zone or switch-up.

Could be wrong, but I vaguely recall a time or two where at least whoever the tv announcers were, claimed we were in a triangle and 2 or box and 1 or something...

Pretty certain they did. I think it was when he was just a rebound away (or maybe an assist and rebound away), so I was surprised when they seemed oblivious when he got it.
