The Syracuse zone was the reason Coleman got the triple double. He’s the first Illini big that I can remember that actually understands that the way to break that zone is to flash the high post in the middle. He actually is the point guard in that situation. Once he gets the ball there the offense runs through him. So refreshing to watch that after years of watching our team not understanding a zone. So fun to watch!
💯 The post was a black hole in recent years. A 20 and 10 black hole, but still a black hole.

I was hoping you would answer my question. It makes sense to me that players would become very comfortable with the shot. Would you say that practicing spot up shots from 3 is more muscle memory practice than reactionary practice like a scrimmage? Do coaches encourage most guys to focus more on jump shots from distance?
Yes, the midrange jumper has become obsolete in terms of analytics. Brad wants open 3s and 2s at the rim.(more bang for your buck analytics tell you). Our whole defensive scheme last year was to get teams to take contested twos as that’s the lowest percentage shot you can take. And if teams beat you doing that then they deserve the win that night.

Sure. I just wish he took a few more of his own opportunities to score, especially early in the game when he seemed like he was passing up his own short-range open shots to facilitate.

To be fair, a lot of the shots he facilitated were also wide open. We just kept missing them.

The center for the cuse , Edwards I think , who fouled out should have been fouled out in the 1st half if the refs had called the over the back plays he made and the way he was forearming Skyy or other smaller Illini defenders they should have bruises all over their backs.....I didn't care for any of the cuse players and they had the mentality of their whiny coach bozoheim....................jmho

Our smaller guys didn't let him intimidate them. They stood in there and fought.

He's kind of the Perry Como of basketball. (For those of you too young to remember, which is probably most of you, SCTV did a great parody of Perry Como called, "Perry Como: Still Alive After All These Years". You can see it here, Perry Como/Jim Boeheim)

But Our Beloved Orange can also learn a few things from Perry Como...

“Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes”

“Some Enchanted Evening”

“Hoop-Dee-Doo”

“I'm Always Chasing Rainbows”

“Magic Moments”

I love this response. This certainly makes sense and will me make me a better observer as a fan. This helps me notice more strategy and improves recognition for why a team is doing something. I never get upset by missed shots. I just hate illogical mental decision. I remember coaching youth BB and this kid who was not very talented and wasn't tall, but worked hard. He got a rebound once and dribbled out of the traffic. As I yell, "Good decision Lou!", he turned and fired up a 20 footer. His dad sitting next to me on the bench said quietly, "Bad decision Lou". We laughed. Thanks for playing.

Syracuse is going to win some games in Big East. Right now their point guard play is terrible. However they showed some really nice size and shot blocking.

Edwards 6'11" had 17 rebounds and 3 blocks 2 steals. Nice Euro find.

Little different defensively this year getting away from the pack line and switching everything.

Did you miss the part where they can't score on O or stop entry passes on D?

If by "some" you mean a small, single digit number, then I agree.

I’ve seen a lot of comments that last night’s win was ugly, not a work of art, etc

I disagree. The first half was ugly but the second half was beautiful. A complete domination and exploitation of that zone. The “prettiness” of the second half more than made up for any “ugliness of the first.

Excellent strategy and use of personnel to attack it and tremendous execution.

I liked Coleman before but I was more reserved than some on his potential. But after last nights game and hearing his knowledge and understanding in the post game interviews, I think he can indeed be “the guy” on a championship caliber team.

I think he will have a long professional career, but you can tell he has the makings of a coach as well.

Big time player and person!!!

It's 2022 and we are discussing how many Big East games Cuse are going to win.

I guess to be fair, they have that 1 against Georgetown, so yeah, "some" is extremely relative.

They are still doing it this year. They are forcing almost 38% of opponents shots as long 2s. Only 19% of their own shots are at that range even with Coleman's free throw line bonanza last night. They are shooting 48% of shots from 3 which seems a little too high.

Yes they still want to do that. Can’t do it as exclusively as they did last year. Don’t have Trent and Monte who knew the scouting report for every player as well as the coaching staff did.

Love the comments. We win by 29 against Syracuse and people are saying it is an "ugly" win. May all of our wins be this ugly!
I don't think anyone is saying it like it's a bad thing. Just saying the game was ugly. We missed a lot of shots we normally will make. Could have easily won by 0 last night. There is a huge talent disparity between these two programs.

-Hats off to the student section for knowing CoHawk needed a rebound for the triple-double. Was cool seeing them go nuts.
-Love the free nuggets idea on consecutive missed free throws. Cool way to get the crowd amped.
-There was a player on the bench next to Goode, at least in the 2nd half. Anybody know who that was?
