Maryland 71, Illinois 66 Postgame

[JSpence]

Whatever. That’s a team that probably gets a double bye this year, and we lost a 1 possession game on the road. I’m more confident after tonight in our team than I was before.

This defense can make things happen even on off nights.

[sunman]

Did Sencire Harris play? I missed the first half.

[PNWIllini]

We are a big time basketball team and will be real dangerous come March

Assuming we mature. We played naive and gave away a winnable game.

[CV Illini]

Wanted that 3 for Epps to drop so badly for him. Would have been awesome in front of family and friends.

[blife]

That was just a disjointed game. We could not get a flow going for any extended period of time. Oddly called game had something to do with it in MHO, and not blaming the refs. Game was winnable. We did not execute

[aaeismacgychel]

Meh, games like this happen. We fought hard, made some mistakes, and the difference between winning and losing on the road is missing a three and them making a three. That's it. Not too worried about this one. Now let's go to a neutral court and beat Texas

[KrushCow31]

A couple of those bad calls hurt us in the end, but we just never got in a rhythm.

[Warren Carter Fanclub]

Having Mayer and Epps in foul trouble really hurt our depth to be able to maybe wear them down

Yes, but Mayer should be contributing more than just helping wear them down.

[Miles Leonard]

What a shot by the kid. Tip my cap to him. Sucks to be on the losing end of a high level game.

I thought our kids handled themselves well in their first true road game. We're just not destined to win @ Maryland.

Still love the journey we're on.

Bring on Texas.

[SuperMetroid]

Never really realized until tonight how trashy Maryland's fans are. Makes the loss that much more difficult to stomach. We're fine though. Doesn't change my outlook on the season.

They’ve been garbage for a looong time (when they actually show up that is). The only fanbase that ever made me kind of feel sympathy for Duke

[illinipimp]

Poor 3 point shooting (25%). Ballgame.

He was surprised how open he was. So was I.

[idoc13]

Why was Skyy Clark on the bench at the end of the game? Thought he did some really good things in the second half.

You forgot Harris

[GallopingGhost]

The Terp fans are annoying, but that just means we got under their skin… er.. shells?

[blackdog]

Did Sencire Harris play? I missed the first half.

He did but looked like he was limping pretty badly and trying to play through it. Hurt the depth even more.

The two quick ones on MM in the first half sucked... That and Sencire being banged up didn't help keep the defense fresh at all.

[Flyin' Illini]

Tough loss, but we put up a good fight, especially considering the lack of contributions from Mayer and Epps, and Harris apparently still being injured. Our depth advantage was nullified and the home team won. We are the better team, but this was B1G basketball on the road.

39 minutes from CoHawk and 37 from Shannon. I don't like it, but way to go, guys.

Yeah I'm fine losing a road game to a Maryland team of this caliber. I'm not fine losing to the Philly fans of college basketball.

[Chad Fleck]

Heck of a game. I'm completely pleased the chances that the Illini had down the stretch to take the lead.

Not thrilled with Shannon (i think) going under that screen when they were down by 1 with 2 seconds on the shot clock. You don't give up a 3 there. You have to leave yourself with a chance to tie at least.

[Epsilon]

I know that was a tough loss but there is no shame losing this game. The Terps are now 8-0 and already have an outstanding resume. We will learn and grow from this one.

[dbeverly26]

Loved our fight, hate playing on the road on the B1G, and am so annoyed we don’t get a second chance against those clowns. Absolute trash all around in College Park.

[Illini8420]

We're still good. It was in the worst environment possible against a good team. I do like that Hawkins is looking more like an NBA player each game.
