Maybe i'm getting older, but shame on the Maryland AD for not getting on the loudspeaker for throwing things on the court, and yelling obvious obscenities towards opposing players. I would imagine there were several youngsters in attendance, and they don't need to hear that. I guess it's what i would expect from the Wash DC area. Absolute trash. The Kevin Warren lead Big 10 has been an embarrassment overall.
Their fans were awesome (except for wasting a perfectly good pretzel). That's what college basketball student sections should be like. Give me more of that and less of the blue hairs at SFC with their arms crossed half the game.

A shame there will be no rematch in Champaign. Great game but Illini got the road bounces and calls. Outcome was no surprise. Lots of things from which to learn....and the best thing for this Illini team is they are the Fighting Illini and showed it in as tough of an environment as can be found.

I will tip my hat to both teams as I love these types of games. The speed and athleticism they saw tonight is off the charts and our guys are learning daily to be comfortable in that type of competition...and there will be more of the same ilk.

Still love this team and their ceiling and that Hawkins and TSJ have assumed leadership roles...that is paramount to success.

Welp I told you I'd be here win or lose so here I am. Unreal game...pretty obvious that both of these teams are under-ranked. Insanely jealous of your depth and frankly just your roster – I'm happy we played you today and not in a month. Hawkins is special.

Really fun game, high-level basketball. Will be rooting for y'all the rest of the year because fk most of the other Big Ten teams and fanbases.

I feel our defense in the 1st half was the difference. We left way too many open 3’s and they made us pay. If we had cut that 1st half margin we would have won by 2-4 points.

Their starting 5 is really good, and may carry them this year if they stay injury free. Their big crowd carried them in certain moments too.

It’s incredibly irritating that Maryland continues to have our number, no matter what…

The 2nd half adjustments by the coaching staff were first class. They were getting murdered off the press and seemed to be getting lost a lot. Definitely a different feel to the team after halftime.

That's what makes it boring and obvious, but defensively we switch everything and create chaos and force all five opponents into discomfort, at the cost sometimes of "take away this one or two guys".

That said, the transition back to UnderwoodBall is, all things told, going somewhat better than I'd feared. We have the right roster for it which we did not in 2017.
I’ve kind of always been on team let the big gun get his as a defensive strategy, I guess. They got some stuff going to the hoop but what really killed us, especially early, was losing guys at the three-point line imo. That, and Dain not doing a great job of hedging on the game-icing shot.

Coleman Hawkins is squarely in the "Illinois players that frustrate the hell out of me" camp along with all time facepalms like Kipper Nichols, Warren Carter, and Curbelo for me

Tough game, tough environment, tough calls. This team is young and growing and they showed incredible grit in a losing effort.

Still need to find our alpha down the stretch. Shannon seems to be the obvious choice, but as a whole, the team seems to be deferring to Hawkins, who’s assuming more of a facilitator role right now.

They started that chant after Coleman went and chirped at the student section. Can't say he didn't have it coming 🤷‍♂️
I don't mind players getting in each other's ears (hence my administration for #31 Mr. Witherspoon) but players should leave the fans alone and fans should respect the players.
