What's going on with the portal though is insanity and it will destroy the sport. Coaches in essence have to re-recruit their roster every single year. That plus unregulated NIL $ is a recipe for chaos. You don't see unrestricted free agency or open salary caps in the NFL do you?

You are making it sound like whats its not. Treat the players right, dont bulltihs them and they will want to play for you and stay for 4 years.
We really have nothing to worry about. Schools like some in the SEC that have 5* and 4* guys riding the pine in the 3-4 deep probably do

Give the players a salary and a contract. Till then, yes, coaches should have to re-recruit players every year. The absurdity of amateurism caused this. We don’t see this in the NFL because it doesn’t pretend the athletes aren’t employees and the NFL players association has a union.

Maybe. Coaches get paid for it and have staffs to assist. I believe that there will be NIL regulation instrumented. When I don't know. That is my own opinion.

It really goes both ways with the transfer portal. I have no problem that a player can transfer one time without sitting out a year at all. The problem is that certain teams/staffs/booster/etc are offering players on current rosters that have not declared for the transfer portal money to leave the current program and attend a new school. Read an article about Mack Brown from UNC was having lunch with one of his starters the other week. Brown said the kid told him he wasn't leaving but that 15 schools had offered money for him to leave UNC and join those particular schools.
Illinois will not get hit hard in the transfer portal this year for losing guys. We are building up the roster but once we get more talent and depth it will be the circle of life for our program like many others that are losing quality young men.

He has tons of tools but he was a turnover machine
He has had some terrible Olines and has been plagued with injuries because of that. He is a true dual threat QB and is a great kid. He will have his pick of Top 25 programs.

I watch a lot of Ok St games as son #2 is an alum. He is often frustrating. Tons of talent, but yea, turns it over too much and gets hurt a lot with his style of play
my guess is he just wants a change of scenery. Gundy is a good coach and good guy
