NIL money SEC schools can throw at QBs isn’t anywhere near what we can.
Other way around, right?

Also I keep pointing out how advantaged Illinois is by a system where recruiting flows from the sheer number of internet weirdos you have.

Kentucky is one of the few who can outdo us there.

I’m actually surprised it wasn’t higher. It’s going to have to be in the future to get top QB transfers I bet.

Is Altmyer waiting for the Ole Miss game to be over first before he announces where he goes? They play tomorrow night. I see players announce they are going to transfer, but didn't commit and still play in their bowl games.

I think the reason so many people are "on edge" isn't so much seeing Walter's leave, the other coaches leave, or even losing out on a recruit, instead I think it's we know the margin for error for Illinois football is razor thin.

Each of those things seem like they could be the feather that breaks the Illinois football camels back and send us back to oblivion.

I'm confident BB planned for these scenarios for weeks if not months, but when you pile on a whole bunch of crappy news without any of the good news yet I think everyone is nervous we are headed back to the 2-10 days.

There's a handful of folks that are blowing off steam on here based on the combo of Walters - Patterson - Card for Purdue but the long-term posters and general narrative on here is still content. "We" aren't used to the team playing in the bowl game, especially this late in the season. Things are likely to turn towards Reliaquest in the next 24-48 hours. It's going to be a hurried timeline after that, as you could get the following in the next 10 days:

Bowl game outcome
Likely announcement of incoming transfer QB
Players on current roster declaring for the draft
Possible announcement of transfer portal (leaving - coming)
Hiring of secondary coach
Hiring of running backs coach?
Leaking of names for outside linebackers coach

I mean NIL is a mess, but you still gotta be able to build relationships and coaching. You could drop whatever you want on a QB, but if you can't coach em up and get production out of them it won't matter in the end.

Being a good coach is still a very important thing.

Just depends. Auburn, Bama, Georgia….they can offer whatever they want.
Makes sense. Is it driven more by their big donors or contributions from across their whole fanbase (e.g. a limited # of folks putting up large sums vs. a ton of folks throwing in a few bucks)?

You should go check out the 247sports board. They are kind of behind the 8 ball on some things and some of the posters are confused on what’s going on. Some of them go at it as well.

There is also the perceived uncertainty or worry that Isaiah Williams will follow Patterson.

But I agree with you that we all are conditioned to expect something to derail any progress we make. One thing that could really negate last years progress would be for us to not get a QB that is ready and throw a young in there before his time.

If we get a Altmyer or a comparable QB and IW stays, I’m calling this off-season a success based on the recruiting class we’ve signed and my confidence in the coaches BB will hire.

Problem with NIL is that we now have too many cooks in the kitchen trying to play “Big Swingin D***” by influencing the decision based on how much they are donating, have donated or threaten to no longer donate. These kids taking money should also have clauses put into these agreements that they’ll play in post - season games or forfeit a specific amount of money. On the other hand, a kid getting paid $300k-$500k is nothing short of a professional , and with that will come the ire of entitled fans who may otherwise empathize with a true student athlete.
