yea, Im afraid we arent quite yet in the realm of destinations for some of these "top of the heap" qb transfers due
to our brand still is not strong nationally
and
the offense we run is not for gun slingers

we'll be fine

Thanks for the insight. Shows what caliber of a QB they are looking for.
Think this has been said previously but I'm guessing we wouldn't have gotten either to campus a year ago.

The fact that we were seriously in the running for both (and hopefully land one) shows the dramatic shift from where this program was not long ago

yea, Bielema and Lunney are both fairly well respected in national football circles. And the OC (Lunney) is the guy the QB really answers to all week/year

If this makes people feel better then great but let's not kid ourselves, Card would have been a great get and possibly the best QB we've had in a decade. That being said, all hope is not lost without him.
The best QB we've had in a decade. Hmmm....not so sure about that....a good QB maybe, didn't see alot of interest from the Blue Bloods.

Below from the article I posted is promising.

Altmyer is staying with Ole Miss until after the TaxAct Texas Bowl, so I wouldn’t expect a decision from Altmyer until after the game. The early reports, eventual silence from both camps, and Card committing to Purdue could mean something is hopefully brewing.”

Texas Bowl is tomorrow so there should be a decision soon, maybe this week or next week.

Altmyer can announce whenever he wants after their game. BB may ask him to keep it quiet though for our team's sake

But I dont think we will hear anything from BB about it, or about any new coaches until after our bowl game

I'm kind of 50/50 on this. I was pretty optimistic after 1999 that RT would be successful here long-term; I was obviously wrong there

Having seen Zook's coaching multiple times/year while he was at Florida, it was obvious whatever success he had at UI would be fool's gold. The guy could recruit like nobody I've ever seen, but he was just godawful at every other aspect of the job. You can recruit all the 4* and 5*'s you want, but they do you no good if the X's and O's aren't there.
The reason it’s different with Bielema is he is able to both recruit and coach. Turner could coach but didn’t want to recruit. Zook could recruit but was not a great in game coach. I think Bielema is very good at both.

Another way to look at it is who hired Turner and/or Zook to be a head coach at the power 5 level after they were fired here?

Having Card and Altmyer on campus for visits should tell you something about their intentions on bringing in a transfer QB.

It's not the intention that comes with concerns, it's the actual landing of that top-notch transfer QB (and we seem like we're down to 1 option, who is likely a few notches below the best options)

You would crazy to pass up on him. Even Card has had limited playing time. With the skill sets and the talent he has, he needs to be a starter and in the right system with the right coaches that will maximize his skills sets and talents. Ole Miss just ended up not being the right place for him.

Being upset about landing Altmyer is nuts. He’s not that much below the better options. He just hasn’t had that much playing time in his collegiate career so far so it’s hard to evaluate his stats. Even Card has had limited playing time. However Altmyer has 3 years left of eligibility and has played in the Sugar Bowl. With the skill sets and the talent he has, he just needs to be in the right system with the right coaches that will maximize his talents.
We'd have all gone insane if we'd landed an Altmyer-type as a HS recruit, and justifiably so.

The QB portal is halfway between the random wild west it once was and the well-oiled marketplace it's soon to become. There is the broad outline of a clear hierarchy and pecking order, but some individual moves don't make total sense (Card to Purdue, Mertz to Florida. Huh?).

I think the best way to think of Altmyer is stylistically similar to TDV, but a higher-risk, higher-reward play.
