Hawkins takes a few shots all game and then takes a corner three in a crucial situation 🤷🏻‍♂️. Granted he was wide open, but you are so out of rhythm with shooting by that point.

Bad clock management at the end too.
Hawkins was wide open what is he supposed to do? You don’t get a better look. Pass it off for a possible worse shot. What kills us is Shannon not finishing the layup. Also that whole sequence before the 1/2 ended where we were up 6 and it went to 1. Plus our turnovers hurt today.

Can you imagine the reaction of some on the board if he didn't shoot it?!?

They needed to play their best game (with a little help from the stripes) and won by 2 on their floor.

To those saying Coleman had a bad game. He made a first round pick work for everything, rebounded well and played great help defense.

Shannon is in his head a little bit. Think he needs to pull up and take a 10-12 footer a couple of times. He struggled finishing against Texas and I believe one of those got him going in OT.

Epps is a bucket. With his emergence, we now have 3 guys who can go get one unscripted. Not too many teams will have that come tourney time.

Looking forward to watching this team for the stretch run. If we keep progressing and get Goode to the point he can play about 20 minutes a game and shoot 35% from 3 I really like our chances to make a run.

Anyone else think Jaden got hit on that last 3? Go Illini!
He definitely got hit in the hand and I’ve seen that called plenty of times.

could of stole one on the road but still not to broken up about this one. When Mayer went to the bench in foul trouble and was not on the floor we really only had one legitime threat from 3. Granted, Shannon has been in a funk but they were then able to drop back and really concentrate on him. Hate to say it but a good coaching game by Fran. The press slowed us down and possession after possession were hurrying to get into the offense and get a shot off.
The inbound plays at the end were huge. In bound it, let 4 seconds run off, call TO. Twice. 8 seconds I'd really would have like to of have.
didn't hurt they had a 10 ppg and 30% three point shooter hit everything. Especially getting to the line. In the 22 games prior to this one Perkins was 52 for 71 FT's in 22 games. That's an average of 2.3 for 3.2
Today 15 for 16.

This post was (wisely) deleted in the post game thread, but this is a great example of a lot of the people attacking Hawkins.

"What contributions outside of a block. His defense assignment was Perkins."

Not calling anyone out by name, but this poster made multiple posts attacking or criticizing Hawkins in the game thread but apparently didn't watch the game well enough to know this is a ridiculous statement. Perhaps some should spend more time watching and less time typing. It's like some are just poised by their keys waiting to complain about something. I guess that's just called the internet now?

Sorry. Sick of the negativity.
Lol. Your right. I haven’t watched every Illini game since 2002 and I have attended easily 40 plus games during that time. CH is a stud in games against low competition not so much against quad 1 teams.

I apologize. He had 9 rebounds at 6”10. And 1 assist 3 blocks and 3 crucial TO and 6 points. 0-7 from the field.

But let’s take a look at the box score since I type to much and don’t watch the games.

I am a huge Underwood fan but his answers in the after game pressers baffle me. He has no problem with Epps shooting a contested 3 and oh by the way Epps was 1-6. He said not regret in not using a timeout with 10 seconds left? What Coach? Mayer has been Infuego from 3. Run a play for the man.

That was a winnable game and we outplayed Iowa. Obviously the fouls and free throws were a factor, but I don't think they were egregious. We shot very well and should have won that game, but too many mistakes and turnovers (turnovers 14-6 in Iowa's favor).

I agree! Too many TOs...kills us... totally negated our massive rebounding advantage.

The hate for RJ is ridiculous. He plays with heart. He’s obviously not having the year we thought he would. Probably not the year he thought he would. But I say keep playing him. We won’t know when he breaks out of it if he doesn’t play. And if he does we are so much better.
Heart doesn't win games, obviously. I'm not saying he should be benched, but he's not a net benefit on the court right now.

I would like someone to start a gofundme for a good portion of this board to not watch...or comment on what they think they see.

The amount of hate Coleman Hawkins gets on this board is ridiculous. He obviously didn't shoot well today, but he did a ton of other things. 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, an assist, interior defense. I find it funny I didn't see you all saying "Shannon lost us that game". Go check out his stats if you want to cherry pick stats to attack someone who didn't shoot great. Was Hawkins guarding Perkins all game? That guy is why we lost more than anything else. He went off. It happens. But all this focusing on one guy....while ignoring what he adds...is pathetic. We were up 8 during the game and what is being said on the board? Crap about Hawkins. It literally makes the game threads unfollowable.

Ty Rodgers mom was right about a lot of our fans.
I’m surprised they aren’t blaming DaMonte. Guess Hawkins is this years boogie man

At the game watching the pre game warmup and RJ just doesn’t miss. He is so much in his own head right now it’s sad. Hoping he pulls out of it but I’m starting to feel like hitting the reset button and transferring maybe his decision after season end. Again, hope I’m wrong.

Hawkins has had his haters since at least the middle of his sophomore year. So, no surprise to me that they pick up their pitchforks when he goes O-fer against a rival.

I'll take some heat for this but for me, it's RJ who needs to be shifted to the end of the bench. It's to the point where I cringe seeing him on the floor. He's a pretty good on ball defender but I'm still taking Ty, Sencire, and...Luke? ahead of him. I hope he sticks with it and he turns it around next year or sooner. He certainly has the physical tools. But I've kind of lost confidence that he's going to play his way out of this slump he's in.

Hoping DD took notice of the curvy-shaped trajectory the ball took coming out of Perkins hands on any and all shots he took and how it could possibly help his free throw shooting.
I thought it was remarkable watching how much more arc Iowa players put on their shots than our guys do. We tend to be line-drive free throw shooters. Iowa players are not.

Coleman has had several decent to good games against "quad 1 opponents"

9 and 7 against texas
16, 7 and 4 against MD
9 and 8 against MSU
20 and 5 and 9 and 5 against wisky
11 and 9 agianst OSU

His game just doesnt match what many expect a big time player to be. he's not a scorer, he's an energy guy that can average about 10

Also i continue to say hes performing above his rating. Dude wasnt a top 150 recruit.

I like how the hate seeps from your post......"9 rebounds at 6'10", crucial TOs as if most arent crucial and two other guys didnt have similar TO problems. Point is he gets ragged on by some to the point where even the positives are discounted

But i think the crux of the poster's beef was saying hawkins' assigment was perkins, which is quite ridiculous lol

We had 14 turnovers...but I guess his were the "crucial" ones.

And do you mean like his bad 9 point/7 rebound/4 assists/3 block game against #2 Texas?

His 20 point game against #14 Wisconsin?

His 5 rebound/ 7 assist/ 2 block game against #8 UCLA?

His 16 point/7 rebound / 4 block game against #22 Maryland?

Get out of here with that
