And we all just keep holding out hope that this mix-and-match group of goofballs will all click at the same time in the NCAA Tournament for a few games... to either have this be a zany, rollercoaster of a team that never panned out and we all are eager to forget or a delightfully strange group that came together and ended on such a great note in the NCAAs that we all laugh hysterically at the ride we took to get there for years!

No one could have written beforehand how this Illini season would go. And certainly no one can predict what this collection of unpredictable free spirits will do when March reaches into its full glory.

Look, we know we all want That Big Trophy. And this will happen one day with the solid foundation the Illini have re-built.

But we also have to step back and remember that this a beautiful game played by great physical specimens who out of all the many programs in America chose to come to the Prairie State and put on the Orange and Blue.

It’s not making a concession to say that there is more to roundball life than just winning the NCAA tournament. For if there weren’t... then hundreds of teams would have had nothing but failure and this would have all been a waste of time and effort for no good purpose. And no one could honestly say that.

These young men get a very short window to play College ball. If you asked any one of them they would tell you that their goal is to win the National Championship. They want it as much as Illini Nation does. They will remember these days as a high point in their lives.

And that’s why you play the games. Thousands of other guys have the same Trophy dream. And among the dreams and desires and effort and sweat and tears of all these guys under all the hot arena lights comes the harsh reality of one winner and one loser when the lights go down and the game is over.

And all that effort and love for the game still lives on whether they win or lose. And maybe it even grows.

As we near the end of the regular Season and the fast approach of the Madness that we all live for... we recognize and acknowledge all the great efforts that the Illini have made this season to bring their dreams – and ours – to reality.

For those in Illini Nation who are frustrated... know that the guys on the floor and in the Coach’s office are secretly just as frustrated. But in a way, that’s OK. Because that means they care. As do we. We just don't stay or get lost in frustration but instead use that to redouble the efforts to succeed.

For each and every one of the Illini team – and all of Illini Nation – thanks for giving us the effort you have to this point... especially so with the wild ups-and-downs of a challenging season.

And we’re not done yet. The Dream – and the pursuit of that dream – live on.

The lights are coming on again. A new game begins. And the heartbeat of ball hitting court is the rhythm we live for.

At least Mayer is honest about why he takes so many threes. I have to wonder how much BU is really on board with Mayer's on metrics.

"If you shoot it you can't turn it over"

The video of him explaining it has me in tears. "I like a caffeine-induced euphoria to play video games"

Oh gosh, the board’s gonna have a field day with this one, huh? Matt, why would you admit this….
I think we found a replacement for Bill Walton when he retires from broadcasting..... That is not a compliment.

So, is Moretti even close to being a suitable sub yet for JE or will Ty and others just do the fill-in job?
I’m concerned about Jayden…I don’t wanna sound heartless and crass…

But, should this turn into a sh*t-show with Coward and D.wad…(like it probably will) I’m legit concerned with potentially getting into foul-trouble…and having such a short bench…I hope we get lucky 🍀 with that.

Ahh, whatevs…some of the most improbable things have happened this year…therefore, Paxton and Lieb ‘ll probably combine for 50 points and dual triple-doubles.

Then we win the BTT Tourney and get to the final four. Mathew Mayer then decides to forego the NBA draft to enter Mime School.

Oh FFS. I’m going to secretly hope that he just wanted to miss practice and this was his best idea. He certainly doesn’t fit the mantra of wanting guys with character, not guys that are characters.

And being the enigma he is, he will probably go off for 30 tomorrow night and carry us to victory.

All the best wishes to Jayden. Concussions are bad, concussions you need to overnight in the hospital for are worse. Just be glad it’s not a heart thing.

This makes us very thin for tomorrow and likely for the rest of the year (I would think). I was very encouraged with the Ty- Hawkins-Mayer- Sencire- TSJ line up working the best for us lately, but spells for those guys become very short. Get ready to see more Goode, more Dainja and yes, probably more Lieb

What indication do you have that he has no character? You can have character and be a character simultaneously.

You sound like Mr. Burns.

I know you like to nit pick things, but is that seriously what you think I said? Because that is not what I said.

You can choose to infer whatever meaning you want I guess, but I have never and never will question our players character. Now since I’m already in a lousy mood over what happened to Epps, I think I’ll just sign off rather than continue this discussion.

Quote from Mayer: "We don’t know what’s going to happen with him the rest of the season or if he’s going to have to quit basketball." 🤷‍♂️
Ummmm, if you could add some context to this quote. Was he joking around or actually being serious? If he's being serious that's really ominous. As in not sure why someone would say something like that unless it was really serious. Concussions come in all shapes and forms and affect people differently, but for a comment like that, if he's serious, that had to be one with really bad visuals... Really hoping for a fast recovery with no lingering effects.

Well now I'm confused because it's literally what you said.
