Careful, there's a whole bunch of folks on this board that think Brad's a terrible coach.

Despite being the winningest coach in the B1G over the last 4 seasons.

Wish we could get Gentry back. Feels like we missed his scouting and Xs and Os this season.

I might get flack for this, but I really think that’s been a key factor this season. The first season after gentry, our schemes didn’t change that much given kofi was still there. But the first year of a whole new scheme without him, and it just hasn’t clicked that well. I think his absence has a lot to do with that.

I respectfully disagree. Over half the season we ran the Spread offense that has been around since then, off and on…AND it’s mostly been on…since SFA. Yes, they tweaked some things and added Specials and Set Plays out of it.

But it ended up not being a whole new scheme for us this year…because it’s the same base offense that Underwood has used everywhere he’s been.

They had success with the Spread and specials out of it with Kofi and Ayo too if you recall.

Then Gentry evidently talked him into going away from it because we went to more quick hitter type stuff out of a Horns set mostly…a lot of middle ball screens with Kofi and Ayo…I remember ram screens into high ball screens…blah blah blah stuff like that…NBA esque I guess you’d say.

But that doesn’t make it better. Hoiberg’s all about the NBA sets…still a damn good coach IMO…but how’s he doing these days?

I think Gentry’s stuff was good, but it was effective but just very incredibly basic basketball. I reject the notion that Gentry is this offensive guru that is far superior to Underwood.

I mean really, Gentry’s stuff wasn’t anything that was wildly more successful than what we were doing the year before. It was just a different approach. Simplicity IS good and I like the way it spread the floor out. But it didn’t get us past Loyola did it?

Simplicity is probably what we need this season though.
