If Underwood goes to Texas for some reason, maybe Whitman should hire Boeheim. He would be great for this supposed "zone defense" that we need to utilize. /s
Nah, Boeheim was all about the 2-3 zone.
We clearly need to go with a 3-2 zone so we can get Podz back; and put him at the point…That way Brad won’t have to yell as much.

Yes, I’m joking. Brad would have to yell much more. Seriously…if a zone was on the table it would be a disaster against Penn State. I think that’s pretty obvious.

For the record, I think Podz might have had a few games where he hit some big shots for us…and with the injuries that we’ve had
there would have been at least some opportunity. But I don’t blame Brad one bit that he left. He wasn’t anywhere near that
level last year…and he supposedly wanted to play more minutes immediately…

I didn’t blame Brad for leaning on his veterans. And I still don’t.

You would think he would have seen the writing on the wall and gone out on his own terms and gave his fans a chance to appreciate him. Instead ego prevented him or he was unwilling to accept that he was no longer effective

Izzo followed by Hamilton Drew and Self will be longest serving P5 coach

I like that Kampe guy from Oakland. Seems like he'd be a cool guy to have a beer with. A little over .500 overall which would get most coaches fired. Salary over $300k/yr., compete for conference titles. Seems like he's got a pretty good stew going.

Mark Adams steps down at Texas Tech. Looks like there will be quite a few openings this year. Wonder if Chester is viewed as ready for his own program?

have to imagine Tech will hire either Mills from Oral Roberts or McCasland from North Texas

I wasn't insinuating Chester would go to Texas Tech, but say Texas Tech hires the coach from Oral Roberts, then they are gonna have an opening. Whoever takes the Notre Dame job is going to create another opening, etc. Midmajors will fire their coaches. There are always tons of openings we never hear about because it is midmajors firing their coaches and we don't care.. That's where Chester would be getting his start.

it's weird nobody is hiring the Colgate Coach, they win the Conference running away with it every year (5 straight Patriot League Championships, won Conference Tournament 4 out of 5 years, the year they lost was the tournament wiped out at the end by COVID).

Coach is 45 years old, Program was a dormant when he took over about 10 years ago, and now they are one of the best run programs in the country. They've played competitively in the NCAA Tournament the last few years as well. People just get too enamored with the miracle sweet 16 or whatever. Give me the guy who delivers year after year.

Not P5, but Mark Few is longer tenured than the 3 of them.

If he is viewed in any light as a head coach, it's at a lower level D1 right now. He can recruit, but little else is known. How have games gone when he has the scout/plan? Were those games we struggled, or we were good? A lot of unknowns with college bball coaches because those things switch every game.

It's not like he took a mediocre defense to one of the best in the country like Ryan Walters!

wonder if RPJr. gets a head coaching opportunity this year. He's been under Few for ~4 seasons now. He started at Valparaiso, who after 7 seasons under their current coach and a 5-15 MVC record this year may be looking for a fresh start. IMO RPJr would probably be overqualified for the MVC but who knows

My reaction was almost the opposite. I would put the MVC as a good first head coaching job. They are in the 2nd tier leagues w/the American, and A10, and Mountain West. It isn't Power 6. It's as close as you get. Did the MVCs most recent membership changes -- the departure of Wichita State (10 years ago) and Loyola of Chicago(recent), and the addition of Murray State(recent) -- really drop them that much?
