Khalif Battle is a dude and I’m sure will be highly coveted. I’ll pass on a mid-major center, really think we should move away from centers that need the ball running through them to be effective.

IMO it doesn't matter where we get a big from if they can play D, grab rebounds, make bunnies, and pass out of the double team. Also no more locker room cancer please.

yeah, I've pulled some muscles just watching his dunks. Frivolity aside, I'd rather have him temper his more outlandish jams. Layups count the same and injuries happen significantly less.
If they go in. after this past season lay ups don't seem to be near the percentage of dunks

Not at all.
Why? Saw your other post on another thread that they don't look for him to contribute much until his junior year. So they brought him on as a two-year development project? Don't get it. Where's the assurance that he's around in three years? If he doesn't play, he likely won't stay.

Just saw Izzo reaming Sissoko out, red faced and letting him know he wasn't happy. Sissoko looked him right in the eyes, accepted the criticism and sat down. Difference there vs what we saw yesterday.
Yup..... And Izzo keeps winning NCAA tourney games.

Perhaps BU oughta watch tape of Tommy's offensive sets and get guys that can run them?

It’d be great if you had 15 players that all could start and play right away for you….but that’s not gonna happen

I REALLY hope that some people saw the post game interview with Izzo and them kidding him about braking a clipboard in half and his comments after. Things such as "we're going to coach them hard", "we're not going to let them get away with stuff", etc. If a soft soap approach is what your players require....have to recruit players that embrace your style. BU's approach is tough love. The recruiting approach needs to possibly change?
I don't think there is a right or wrong way. BU can be a Bobby Knight villain or a Tony Dungy saint as long as he wins as far as I'm concerned despite my preference for one style over the other. Brian Urlacher and Peyton Manning seemed to do ok with Lovie and Dungy as coaches after all.

The caveat is that if you scout who you think are great players and promise them playing time and positions they don't later earn through performance and merit in front of their team mates...You are telling the other players that their performance and work ethic mean nothing because the guy they are out-performing gets to play in the games. Good luck being a hard-!!! coach in that environment.

Thanks for sharing these, @Indy Illini Fan!

247 seems to thinks highly of Battle - they currently have him 5th, which is higher than Skyy and Brakefield, who were each top-40ish out of HS.
Right behind Jameer Nelson Jr.

hey bro , you think cohawk might be coming back next year ??????......
All we need is a coach who truly understand X's and O's. And really wants to develop freshman recruits rather than take the transfer route where he does not need to develop them.

This is not a great take. He was getting screamed obscenities at face to face.

That wasn't a good look by BU. Hopefully he can fix that relationship.
Not great to say the least. Don't think many of today's college players would take well to a coach screaming obscenities at them, right up in their face. Seems more kids these days can't and won't handle that, having had everybody blow smoke up their rears for years, telling them how great they are. But that's also a bad look for Underwood. No need to be that abusive to make his point. Don't know of any other coach in Big 10 that would do that to such a degree, except for McCaffery.

Podz is on NBA draft boards... not to mention.. (I don't know this for sure) Skyy clark doesn't get his "promises" Podz is here and I think we would have won 2-3 more games because of his skill set. He is average 19.9 points a game, 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 Asst while shooting 48.3% total but 43.8% FROM THREE right now isn't he?

If he did 10pts/game for us, we would have loved that.

He was a monster loss for us in the portal because of Skyy. Period.

What does Podz do for us vs Arkansas?

Both ways work. There are top ten teams this year like Purdue and UCLA with rotations of all home-grown players and teams like Texas with rotations of mostly transfers. The average top 10 team this year, among their top 7 scorers, had 2 top 50 recruits, 2 transfers, and 1 senior recruited to the school out of high school. At the end, Illinois had 0 top 50 recruits, 3 transfers, and 0 seniors recruited to Illinois out of high school.

Every major conference team has at least 5 guys that can guard Podz.

Lower conference teams might have one or two. A lot easier to scheme him open when 4/5 players on the court can’t guard him.

If he played enough to score 10ppg for us, how many would he be responsible for on the other end?

Name the guy on each big ten team Podz can guard.

Look I hate Indiana as much as the next guy but I see a little bit of Bobby knight in BU and Bobby knight hangs banners.
He last hung a banner 35 years ago.

Self, Drew, Bennett, Wright, Ollie, Calipari, Williams, & Donovan all managed to hang a banner without doing...whatever that was.

I'm all for the passion, that was taking it a step too far, hopefully he smooths things out with him.
