We'll see. "[F]or reasons related to the student-athlete's physical or mental health or well-being" sounds like a huge loophole.

I agree that it's brutal they're specifically saying that trying to transfer with waiver a second time due to a coaching change will be denied. You've got players in situations like St. John's where Pitino rolls in and just publicly says most of these guys have to go... I've been wondering what Curbelo is going to do. I think he would drive Pitino crazy.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how they handle that. It does seem like a big loophole, but they also point out that lack of playing time or a reduced role will not be accepted, so I wonder what kind of proof they will be looking for that the mental or physical well-being is being damaged at the current school.

In the case of the St. John's players, they could probably say, "Hey, our new coach said in a public press conference he doesn't want us," and that might be enough lol.

I have a feeling that there is some membership pressure based on both NIL brinkmanship scaring the bejebus out of everybody (well, not some but....) and a legal precedent earlier this year IIRC over a waiver denial. Level playing field means NCAA gotta step in, and I'm fairly sure a conference bylaw was stricter than anyone else?

More than likely and they'd be correct in doing so.

Again, not to beat a dead horse, but I think there is a huge difference between Texas calling Brad's agent and offering absolutely insane money and Brad seriously considering it vs. Brad's agent calling an Arkansas and proactively asking them if they'd match or exceed what he's getting at Illinois (an incredibly high salary compared to the rest of the nation). The former is just due diligence and looking out for yourself, the latter speaks to at best being more-than-ready to consider leaving Illinois for the right money and at worst actively looking to leave as long as the salary is at least even.
I don’t know why, but reading 20+ pages here and another 15 on another Illinois site, your bolded statement above just resonated with me. No insider but I believe Underwood is waiting for the dominos to fall this off-season and play his cards early so he gets put on the call sheets of a few universities (KState, Ark, and a few others). He’s prepared to make a change if it presents. He likes Illinois but…

The Tx opening is still confusing to me. Why Brad? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 A lot of folks are cheering Shrewsberry to ND as a positive for us, but if ND gets good, it seems like they could put a dent in our Chicago recruiting.

Notre Dame basketball doesn't have a connection to Chicago and neither does Shrewsberry, so no. If he turns ND into a great program then they will be as much a threat as any other great program, but no more.

The correct take is noting that people are happy he is going to ND to get him out of the Big Ten, but there's a nonzero chance that one of the future rounds of conference realignment brings ND into the Big Ten.

Outside of Chicagoland = downstate.
I hate to admit this but as a native downstater, this always annoyed me. So much so that I had absolutely no desire to live in Chicago. Great city but they rejected us “downstaters”. I’ve lived in several other large and medium metro centers in the country over the course of my adult life but still to this day, have zero desire to call Chicago my home. I have a great pride for Illinois (similar to native Iowans or other smaller Midwest states). The state of Illinois (and U of Illinois sports) are so deeply rooted with my family identity that it makes up a significant part of how I identify myself. I watch games bc it’s amazing entertainment and a source of joy. But I also watch bc dad, my brothers, cousins, sisters and uncles are also watching. We all bond over it. We are Illinoisans.

South Bend is closer to Chicago than Champaign. Proximity might be a more significant connection than ancient history to at least some recruits. 🤷‍♀️

The difference is not much, lol. As a Chicagoan, Illinois picks up a LOT of casual support here in a way no other school does, and the physical proximity is not the deciding factor in that.

As I said the other day, it's not a question of who's got the super secret inside information, the situation at Texas is unknowable even to the principal individuals involved. The games still to be played matter.

This time next week, the situation will have revealed itself at Texas. And if there's no open Texas job, there's no carousel for anybody to ride. Penn State, Texas Tech and Providence aren't causing a cascade.
It’s Bill or Calipari that I’m more interested in.

I think there’s a nonzero chance of almost anything…

For example, a year ago, did anyone here remotely think that Podz could be a first round draft pick this year?
If BU happens to stay and Podz is drafted as high as he is projected in some mocks, that’s just going to ratchet up the pressure on BU next season. Whats the read on Miller? Is he bouncing this year to best available option, or chance he stays at Xavier?

Everyone talking sweet 16 being the Achilles heal for Brad, well Sean has made the sweet sixteen 8 of 12 times in the tournament. Even if BU ultimately wants to stay, but Miller willing to come you have to make that move if you’re Whitman right?

Miller has outplayed his seed a total of 1 time ever. 3 times he’s been an upset. 7 times got as far as expected based on seeding and teams they faced. 3 missed tournaments. 1 NIT. 2020 was canceled and 2021 was a postseason ban and this year they escaped a 14 and beat a play in 11 and TBD v Texas.

Can anyone imagine Jabari Parker, jahlil okafor and any other stud Chicago recruit going to notre dame? This isn’t just an Illinois vs notre dame thing. Both Michigan schools both big ten Indiana schools and Illinois are all way better options then notre dame. And then you get to the schools that recruit nationally. Notre dame would be wasting their time recruiting in Chicago unless they were trying to find diamonds in the rough(which I think they’ll have success doing now with shrewsberry).
