I am originally from and now currently live in IL within the boundaries of the STL metro east. It really amazed me when I went to Illinois and then moved to Chicago about this perception of us down state folk as farmers. I've never met one farmer, have no family, friends, or acquaintances that have anything to do with farming. Are there farms down here? Yes. Are there farms all around upstate? Yes. Funny thing, when I was in school I had a friend from Wisconsin, and no one ever said anything to him about farm culture (that was saved for me) but much to their surprise, he was born and raised on a farm.
lol....Thats funny Ghost77...........perceptions are just that , perceptions........and usually passed down inside families without any research to the reality of that perceptions......some so-called perceptions are attributed to laziness , hatred and outright racism.....
I grew up in a county where a lot of my friends lived on farms.......I didn't think they were any different from me as I interacted with them , conversed with them and indulged in recreational activities where you really get to know a person like playing sports on a team , etc etc..........Me and my 4 best friends in HS started a band and played almost every Friday and Saturday night somewhere in
within a 50 mile radius of where we lived.....

my point is as I posted in another thread is if you judge someone by appearance or residence or whatever , you are shortchanging yourself as some of the best friends I have ever had in my life didn't look like me and didn't grow up in Southern Illinois ......My dad always stressed to me that everyone puts there pants on the same way and I wasn't better than anyone else and they weren't better than me .....

A person's choices in life determine their own future , good or bad ......I have always tried to give peeps the benefit of the doubt , no matter if they looked or sounded different than me.....sooner or later a person will give you enough evidence whether they are the likeable type or no worthy of further exploration as far as friendship was concerned.......

In my life I have always thought Chicagoans looked down on downstate Illinois , but that's their perception , not mine ........

If you open up enough to other cultures and ideas , lo and behold , you might learn something about a different standard of living that might improve your life and get yourself a friend at the same time .......

whew , sorry for the manifest destiny or is it density ?.............only open minded people really know the difference.........peace out....

No No No if you live in Illinois you live in or near Chicago... Its a known fact if you tell someone you are from Illinois they presume you are from Chicago.

Oh and we are all Democrats

And there are some people here and there who think that Al Capone is still walking the Chi-town streets. Guess they gain all their knowledge about Chicago from watching old Untouchables reruns.

You're going to believe whatever you want even though the facts have been stated on here multiple times you just refuse to change your thoughts because they don't fit your narrative. You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes so I'm not gonna deal with dumbassery from you.

Normally I get sick of debating upstate/downstate/Northern/Central/Southern/East/West Illinois (seriously why does everything south of your location have to be "Southern Illinois") but I feel like it's way more productive than repeating over and over 100 different reasons why some people think Brad needs to be fired.

Not shocking at all. Brad's base pay, according to the University Gray Book, is $4.1m. I could see Illinois ponying up a couple more million to land Miller (if it ever really came to that).
That explains the interest.

What are the odds Xavier hires the offensive guru assistant coach to replace Miller in this hypothetical (Miller to the beloved). Would they aim “higher”? I trust Miller would put together an excellent (maybe not #ELITE) staff. Just curious. I don’t know much about the assistant coach, so I may be doing the equivalent of advocating for Dee Brown to replace Groce or Chester to replace Underwood.

I’ll hang up and listen.

What if the two seemingly separate topics are actually intertwined...??? 🤔

The very first coaching clinic I ever went to had Sean Miller as a speaker about his pack line defense. It was either right after he got hired at AZ or after his first year. What stood out to me was the amount of detail he was able to pack and teach so clearly in an hour. I was always a deny defense coach, but about 5 years after that clinic my roster necessitated a move to the pack line. I still use those notes to this day when I use pack line principles. Truly one of the best sessions I’ve ever seen.

Of note because it’s relevant, BU’s were really good too.
I was only fortunate enough to go to a couple bigger clinics like that with big name guys. My Dad used to go to them quite a bit. He’d usually see them in St. Louis I think?…USA coaches clinics I believe? (80s)
( I remember he liked Majerus a lot….
X’s & O’s-wise…)Anyways, one year he went with his assistant..and this guy was all excited to hear John Wooden. Then Wooden got up there and talked for over 20 minutes about
putting on your socks…two pair…
no wrinkles…make sure the seams are correct…blah blah…blah lol

I don’t know if it’s of note. But always found that story amusing for some reason. Lol

Here's something unique... some wild speculation. (Cough...).

In the mid-1980s, Doug Collins became coach of the Bulls after a long series of bad Bulls coaches and dismal records. He quickly got the ship in the right direction and during his years the Bulls had a much-improved regular season winning percentage of 56%.

And then, he was sent packing. People asked, ‘How could they fire Collins?!’. But the motivation was a feeling that he had taken the team as far as he could. And someone else was needed to pick things up further and bring home the glory.

And in came... The Zenmaster. The GOAT of pro ball coaching. During his tenure, he took the team to a regular season winning percentage of 74%.

And what about the post-season? Collins teams were 13-17. Phil Jackson’s Bulls were an astounding good 111-41.

So, I guess we could agree that... THAT SURE WORKED OUT as it was hoped for.

I wonder if the same dynamic and (POTENTIAL) thinking with the Illini Head Coach is in the similar vein. IF the Coach is actually looking elsewhere on his own... then this changing-of-the-guard scenario is not in play.

But if someone of Illini ‘influence’ is raising questions about the future of the Illini... maybe they are walking down the same path as the Bulls did and hoping for the same outcome.

Once the Zenmaster left (was forced out by the generally clueless Bulls management)... the Bulls seasonal record went right back into the toilet. And they have never come close to approaching the incredible heights of being one of the best teams of all time. (Yes, they had Michael. But Phil brought out something in Michael that wasn’t there before).

Just floating the idea that maybe somebody thinks that the current Illini coach is the Doug Collins of the story and that Mister-X will bring Zen-like Magic to the Prairie State.

I typed before saying BU has earned the right to coach UI next year or two.

I don't blame him for looking out for #1. He lands another job? So be it.

If Miller is best option, then let's get him.

JW will not leave us hanging; he'll get the right job, just like BU was the right guy 6 years ago.

The real Doug Collins leaving the Bulls is one of the great untold stories of our time....It is right up there with Bobby Knight decking a particular sportswriter ad why the Illini didn't land Uwe Blab

I mostly agree with you, but I also think this week has shown that at times they seem to enjoy dropping these little grenades and watching the masses scatter.
That’s what you’ve taken from it? There’s a lot going on right now, they’re dropping tid bits or clues for us. I have confidence you can draw a better conclusion next time

Sean isn’t having conversations right now lol … He has a press conference this afternoon and game prep …

Has he had discussions with his people and Illinois people … Have his people talked to Illinois people …

The world may never know …
My source says the next in person meeting Illinois is scheduled to have with him is tomorrow nite during halftime

We need to view insiders like our friends at the bar. If you’re buddy who’s “plugged in” says, “Dude I’m hearing Miller to Illini is actually legit and his staff could be insane … the money is there!” and then that didn’t come to pass and a week later he said, “Yeah, some stuff went down and it just didn’t work out; things changed.”

… would you like accuse your friend of leading you on with rumors and accuse him of not actually knowing anything more than anyone else? Lmao NO, because that would be psychotic. The internet makes it easier for people to not think like that.

It’s like our fanbase learned nothing from Self. We are a great job. But, there’s a few elite jobs you have to take.
What our fan base fails to realize though is the group that UK could snipe is HUGE, and they ascribe it to some issue with Illinois. UK could take a coach from Michigan or Arizona or even Villanova if they wanted to. Doesn’t make those jobs “stepping stone” jobs.

Agreed. There’s around four of those schools. Just sucks we had the guy everyone wanted when one came open.
