At least he finished the year…. I think more layers than just Skye quit on Brad, sounds like others had issues with him throughout the year which is like cancer spreading every day.
Instances like this make me think NIL will be regulated in the near future because this is a large sum of money and boosters are understandably pissed.

There’s a fundamental difference between people transferring for playing time reasons ,more NIL money, or moving up a level, versus just hating the coach despite be given the keys to the offense.

I’m certainly not close to being out on underwood, but it’s a trend that’s I’ve started to notice.

I think we as fans (on this board at the very least) need to reevaluate what the phrase "major loss" truly means.

Some of it can only be done with hindsight, but with Brad in the position he is in (and Bret and Josh in their respective roles - maybe Shauna too) I would view these roster changes as an unfortunate loss that brings along a great opportunity.

Am I happy with Jayden (likely) leaving?. Of course not, I think he's got lots of potential to learn the PG role and be a winner here.
But I agree with your sentiment. I'm not going to get too worked up until we see the net outcome.

What would Epps be upset about? He had plenty of playing time?

Mad about getting yelled at? Did he never watch a Illini game before?
But other coaches get there point across without getting in a players face coming off the court. Miami’s coach comes to mind. Seems his sideline demeanor is pretty effective. I would take that anyday if I was a player.

I’m not as sold on Epps as some people here, but if there are 2 things that this year has taught me is that you need a team that’s has time (multiple years) to gel and lead guards that can drive you to victory in March.

Imo if this team is going to accomplish its ultimate goals it needs to start retaining its young lead guards. Hoping that the portal can bail you out every year doesn’t feel like a sustainable path to success.

The issue is that the resources dedicated to HS recruiting (thinking specifically about the makeup of the staff) start to become difficult to justify if you keep losing very talented first year players who project as core contributors going forward.

If this is going to by nature be a portal reshuffling job every year, I think you need to build with that in mind. And if you don't intend to build that way but it keeps happening organically, that's time for some introspection.

Like, we're going to be having this conversation about one of Hansberry and DGL next year. Not a question mark at the end of that sentence, a period.
Like needing 2 or 3 good HS recruiters on staff becoming less and less important as The Portal rolls on, no?

I am pretty certain we will be brining in an upgrade over Epps (And I really like Jayden's game). Writing was on the wall at the end of the year. He was pouting on the bench and not cheering for his teammates. Great player but may be good for both sides to move on. Our team next year will be better than this year by the end of April
Which April?

Yep...and "we" are here viewing BU's "yelling problem" through a microscope when we need to have our wide angle lens on.

If Epps thinks he's gonna go to another P5 school and not get yelled at.....I wish him all the luck and quiet practices in the world.

I have a hard time believing that the Miami coach yells anywhere near as much as Brad, especially in public lol.

Just sad to think about how high we were all feeling after Vegas and MSG, to how much of a train wreck we were at the end of the season.

We all want Brad to build a roster with the current guys/incoming freshman and not be so blunt about the portal the second after the season ended, but clearly he saw the writing on the wall as well.

If RJ can hold his chin high after all his struggles and continue playing hard it’s tough to have empathy for Epps, Mayer (or whoever) that “give up” before the season is over after being given so much time to prove himself this year. I trust Brad to get the culture right again 🟠🔵

Yes, Jim Larranaga is almost 15 years older and not yelling as much as Brad.

But if you think he doesn't yell at players, I have a fabulous Beach House to sell you for pennies on the dollar. It has a bridge that connects it to all of your hopes and dreams.

C'mon now. True that probably every coach yells sometimes. Also true there are plenty of players that appreciate tough love, ultra demanding coaching, and "being pushed hard" to be all they can be (Epps could be one). Doesn't mean they like or need to tolerate the BU brand of verbal rage fits he was delivering in front of thousands of onlookers nearly every game. I'm all for some sideline yelling from coaches, but needing to take it to the BU level with that frequency during game time seems to indicate he's got a bigger communication/instruction problem; that he's not effective as he needs to be during practice time.

BU's "verbal rage fits" are puppies licking your face compared to what I've witnessed from Izzo the past 20+ years....and that dude, like him or not... just...well...marches on.

See what I did there?

Instances like this make me think NIL will be regulated in the near future because this is a large sum of money and boosters are understandably pissed.
The NCAA has ruined nearly everything else they have had a hand in with regards to collegiate sports, so I certainly hope they are not allowed to be the regulators. Seems contract law would apply. Unfortunately, just because someone is the age of 18 - 20 does not always mean they are mature and/or professional enough to abide by the terms of the contract. The unintended consequences of NIL may take some time to sort out. If the NCAA could have been less greedy and more proactive, they could have standardized rules for everyone, and implemented an enforcement mechanism overseen by member institutions. But, like every other institution in our society, corruption has become the norm and that was never going to be allowed to happen. Sad, but true. Ah well, maybe I'm just an angry man yelling at clouds.....lol.
