You’ll comment on KANSAS transfer players before they’re in the portal, but not Illini players?!!! Why you tease us?!

Worse yet, (at the risk of completely misinterpreting Indy's post), Kansas players transferring to Xavier?

Virginia transfer big man Kadin Shedrick’s stats are not gaudy, but the list of coaches who have contacted him sure is. Dozens of high-major programs have reached out to Shedrick after he totaled 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game for Virginia this past season.

But Shedrick’s playing time fluctuated all year. In mid-November, the 6-foot-11, 231-pound center played 32 minutes and scored 17 points in Virginia’s 86-79 win over then-No. 5 Baylor. During the middle of ACC play, Shedrick was buried on the bench. When Ben Vander Plas suffered a season-ending hand injury, Shedrick stepped back into the UVA starting lineup and dominated Furman with 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia’s efficiency numbers on both ends of the floor ballooned with Shedrick in the game. Opponents shot 57% at the rim against UVA when Shedrick was on the bench, according to Hoop Explorer. The effectiveness at the rim dipped dramatically to 48.3% when Shedrick was in the game. Shedrick's 10.5% block rate and 3% steal rate makes for lights-out stuff on the defensive end.

Scholarships are basically renewed on a yearly basis anyway, so it really doesn't matter. The school is under no obligation to bring back a player who enters the portal. It's definitely a risk for players, especially with so many 5th year guys. There are more eligible players than usual for the same number of scholarships. You better be confident you will land somewhere else...
Its musical chairs as some players may not find a seat to their liking once the music stops.

Shedrick was losing minutes it seemed as the season wore on, and then only started getting minutes again after their other big (Vander Plas) went down with an injury. If he was behind Vander Plas in the pecking order, I'm not sure how I excited I am about that one.

He's commenting on Harrison Ingram, who is in the transfer portal from Stanford. His prediction is he'll transfer to either Kansas or Xavier. At least, that's how I'm reading it.
Yes I’m aware…

I wish when a player decides to enter the portal instead of the generic thank you’s to the university and coaching staff they would come right out and give their reasons for leaving
Yeah that would be great but most of them would probably have a hard time finding a new school and coach if the truth was told.

Then I'm confused since you said this, "You’ll comment on KANSAS transfer players before they’re in the portal, but not Illini players?!!!" Ingram IS in the portal. That's it.
I meant potential transfers in. I just worded it kind of funny. I’m just joking around anyway. I appreciate all of the info our insiders give us.

I'd guess Illinois is going to be listed among some guys simply for the potential negotiating power.

When a player enters the portal, do they automatically lose their scholarship at the school they want to leave? I've wondered what happens if a player enters and then get no offers.
They are SOL. It happens to a non-trivial percentage of the players. I posted some numbers on this a while back if you want to do a search .

Thanks. I see it as a reasonable consequence that they then have to face for their decisions. According to Illini 993's post, apparently a non-significant % find out that the grass is not always greener, in fact sometimes there is no grass at all.

I don't know... I saw a stat on him that showed OppFG% was over 10% lower when he was on the court than when he wasn't last year. I think Bennett may have gone with Vander Plas a bit more because they were so offensively challenged.
Shedrick is a very good athlete for someone his size. We'd be fortunate to get him. IMO

He's going to end up in a big-time program.
