Where would Guerrier, RayJ and Tyger all rank in the portal if they were all in right now? I know Guerrier is already in but he isnt ranked by 247.
Watching Tyger play and develop two or three times a season during his career (I have Pac 12 Network), he has impressed me more than any true PG with his hoops IQ and improvement. This kid is elite and impresses me every time he plays, That said, I cannot imagine he wants to roll the dice and transfer. If it is all about $$$, then it moves him way down the list IMHO.

Honest question. I know it’s a new world of basketball with NIL but why would anyone want to play for a coach that constantly recruits over the players he has already on his roster. I get adding a few pieces. But pushing Rodgers/Goode/Amani/Sencire just for a one year rental. No wonder BU has a high TO rate.
Are there coaches that don’t try to get better players? Seems like a great strategy for getting fired.
The competition in the conference is fierce. If you want to win, you need competition within your roster. Failure to push these young players to earn minutes won’t make them better players.

Do you think BU doesn’t hear the whispers about his tournament performances? He’s looking to win now. The message to the young guys is you’d better work your tail off to improve.

Thanks. By these numbers, it looks like Dain > Guerrier by a fair margin in terms of offensive efficiency and rebounding. Guerrier is an okay catch/shoot 3pt shooter, and can to some extent create his own 2pt shot, though not at a good percentage. What the numbers don't show well is defense. If Guerrier means they can defend the pick/roll, that could make up for a lot. Guerrier/Coleman and Coleman/Dain would be very different looks on the court. Getting Dain out of the lane may open up driving opportunities for others.

It’s a business so I can’t fault players for looking out for what they feel is best for them. I’m not sure if this is a factor or not but if you’re a prospect likely headed overseas for potentially the rest of your career, I’d think that playing one last season closer to home would be pretty appealing.

A team built around the guys you listed would be bottom of the Big 10.
Boy that's bad news for the 2024-25 Illini.

We are consciously deciding to have next year's team driven by one-and-done NIL mercenaries rather than being willing to sacrifice anything to potential growing pains of the Goode/Rodgers/Harris/Hansberry/DGL group that has the opportunity for a longer term future with the program.

I think we're over-doing it a bit, and if TSJ or Hawkins decide to stay in the draft and are replaced with additional outside one-and-dones I think we'll be overdoing it a lot.

23 year old 4-year veterans as free transfers are a unique luxury only temporarily available due to Covid. I get that. We better make hay while that sun is shining, because we're putting ourselves in a challenging situation thereafter.

My answer would be that basketball at this level isn't a youth league where everyone gets equal playing time and a trophy. Best performers get the most playing time and winning is the requirement.

It's easier to keep the boulder at the top of the hill than it is to stop it once it starts rolling down. If we have work to do in the portal next April, so be it.

He enjoyed his time at UCLA but is ready to move on. Whether that is overseas, G League or one year at another high major all are options being explored. $$$ is definitely a factor. UCLA is planning for him to be gone. This is all third hand info, so take with an enormous grain of salt.

We handed two freshman PGs the keys to the offense last year and they both left….. Enduring a season of a young, bad team in the name of a future that might never come would be stupid.

So we should play the young guys? Like Miller and curbelo and Epps and skyy and RJ?
Playing the young guys guarantees nothing.

It gets worse when you consider that neither was a point guard.

That’s literally the Northwestern strategy, be bad for 3 years to have one good season as a 7 seed with an all senior backcourt.
