Exactly- you don’t need to be a starter as a sophomore to be a high nfl draft pick eventually coming from this program- the last two years have proven that

Given Matt Rhule pedigree including NFL head coach for 2.5 seasons. I can only assume there was some outrageous NIL involved. I suspect the days of going into Lincoln and getting a road win are numbered.

This thread is showing our short-term memory is on the fritz. The hype of Frost being hired at Nebraska was several notches higher than Rhule's hiring. The guy took over a 0-12 UCF team and went 13-0 in 22 months. The 2017 AAC was excellent; Memphis was undefeated in non-UCF regular season games. That was the last really good USF team (the 3,215th instance of terrible timing for Illinois non-conference scheduling). He was returning home with immense helium. He was going to bring the Oregon offense to a conference division stuck in the 20th century!

Rhule could prove he's the goods but there's no bigger failure than Frost's flop as UN coach because the hype, (short) track record, and returning home story hit peak levels.

my comment on Frost was based purely on results. yeah, the hype was immense. what a flop

WRT Rhule, we'll see, but I think he'll be able to right the ship. Not to Osborne-like levels, but I think they'll be good. As with all rebuilds, gotta give it some time

I think Rhule will be a good to great coach, but I'm always wary of coaches who don't seem to stay after their first class is all gone...

Rhule has paid his dues....Nebraska is a better program for hiring him after the Frost meltdown

Rhule was an assistant at Temple for a number of seasons. He was with the team since 2006 and when the job came open in 2010 he interviewed for it and didn't get hired. Stayed around for another two seasons and went to NFL for the 2012 season to be an OL coach. Addazio got hired over Rhule in 2010 and left Temple after just two seasons. Rhule got hired in 2013 and stayed at Temple for 4 seasons where they had back to back 10 win seasons for first time and only time in program history. He left Baylor after 3 seasons for the NFL. Probably something he regrets now but ton of coaches get that itch for the professional level plus a huge contract. Grass is greener on the other side for him as he landed another huge contract in the college game and Nebraska. Pressure he is under will be huge.....grabbing the popcorn to see what happens.
